1 January (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. I welcome this Happy New Year. This year has a specialty when it is compared with other years. This is the last year of the 20th century. It has three nines in it. Today I went to degree college by 9:30. We had a classroom function inviting our principal Swarnalatha and some other lecturers. Our classroom was decorated well. All the college students wished happy New Year to one another. Returned home by 4:00 by Tirumala Express. On the occasion of arrival of this New Year, I pray Lord Gopal to direct me well with His blessings. I salute Mother Saraswati. May Her blessings be with me. My salutes to Lord Ganesh. May He guide me with a kind heart. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 January (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to our college by 9:30. Today is the first day of the ninth phase of Janma Bhoomi program (in Andhra Pradesh). Four APSRTC buses came to our college. Ten students, under the supervision of one lecturer, formed a team. These teams go to the selected nearby rural areas and carry out useful activities meant for the development of respective villages. But, the mission of this program is not being achieved properly. Students do nominal work there and get nominal certificates for it. The program cares the number of participants but not the significance or quality of work they do there. Anyhow it is a good program. People are moving from place to place. Mutual interaction among social beings is desirable. Went to sleep by 9:00.
3 January (Sunday)
Woke up by 6:00. Spent most of my time at home watching television. Morning watched the Telugu program “Paaduthaa Theeyagaa” on Eenadu television channel. Went to sleep by 9:00.
4 January (Monday)
Got up by 5:00. The cold is severe outside. Nobody likes to get up early in the morning. Today I spent much of my time at home. Went to Peda Gummuluru by 10:00 on bicycle. Bought a competition postcard from post office and came back to home by 11:45. Spent watching television most of the time today. From 4:00 to 6:00 wrote letters to send to the Telugu program “Sunday Sandhadi” (weekly program of filling up a puzzle with cinema related information) of Eenadu Television channel. Wrote a script in Telugu on the condition of the present-day unemployed with title “Nirudhyogi Niranjana Rao” to be read out by the anchor of this program (as is the practice going on in this program for long). Every sentence of the account (which has 26 sentences in total) starts with an English letter (from A to Z in order), and gives Telugu meaning to the sentence. I addressed the envelope (containing this account, filled up puzzle and notes to Jhansi Lakshmi, the anchor of this program and Ramoji Rao, the owner of this television channel) to Eenadu Television channel in Hyderabad. Went to sleep by 8:00.
5 January (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to Tuni by Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada passenger train by 11:00. Rushed to cinema Sri Rama and saw the English film “Titanic”, which received 11 Oscar awards for the extraordinary picturization of an important historical event. I would give 90 marks for 100 to this great film. Its producers spent millions of dollars to bring it onto silver screen. Audience, world over, honored their great efforts giving it a spectacular success (bundles of money which enables them to produce such great films in future also). The beauty and acting of the heroine is commendable. The hero does not match her beauty though he too did his role well. A huge ship sinks in the middle of a sea (along with its rich assets of monetary value) dashing against an iceberg by the mistake of the crew. Some remain alive. Many die in this accident. The portrayal of this tragedy deeply touches sensitive human hearts. Old heroine narrates this story recollecting her experiences on the voyage. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 January (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Most of the time spent at home watching television. My note on the English film Titanic follows, “It was pictured on the basis of an historical event adding love story. The hero and the heroine are young. Their bodies incline to combine. The hero is a painter. The heroine wants her beautiful and attractive naked body to be drawn artistically by her sweetheart. She lies nakedly on a cushion bed. Then the hero draws her figure. He finishes it and gives it to his beloved. She feels very happy. Their sensually motivated bodies meet in a secret and dark room of the ship. Their mutual satisfaction during and after the task is to be slightly seen on the screen and mostly imagined by the viewers. Nothing to criticize! They are young creatures to marry soon (Alas! the hero dies in the accident leaving his beloved to the gloom of her latter life)”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 January (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. By 9:00 went to Peda Gummuluru and spent there till 12:00 supervising our house construction work. Came back to home by 1:00 and had my lunch. From 2:00 to 5:00 listened to Telugu and Malayalam cine songs on Sri Lanka radio. Night watched television for some time. My note on the English film Titanic follows, “The central theme (the tragedy of people on a ship due to an accident caused by human error) of the film must be brought to the hearts of audience very artistically. Fitting and inspiring music is also to be added to highlight the intensity of tragedy of circumstances around helpless characters in a film. Such absorbing background score can be found in this film. I liked music in this film, which deeply enters heart just like a breeze greeting young couples talking at dusk by seashore”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
8 January (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached Elamanchili by 9:40 by Tirumala Express. Attended the work of paying the yearly premium (of life insurance policy) of my uncle Narayana Murthy in the branch office of L.I.C. in Elamanchili. Returned home by 12:30 by Visakhapatnam-Tuni shuttle train. Had my lunch by 12:40. Started to Peda Gummuluru by 1:00 on bicycle. Spent at our house (under construction) supervising the ongoing work. Came back to home by 5:00. Night watched television for some time. My note on the English film Titanic follows, “The pain of marine officers aboard the ship gets intensified when seawater slowly enters the ship occupying its segments one after one submerging the valuable contents therein. When they know that the ship sinks soon due to the heavy force of seawater rushing in, they helplessly stare at the precious goods afloat in the ship. It is not difficult for them to escape from this tragedy using the available lifeboats. They win our respect and pity trying to help passengers save themselves from the mishap till the end. They die along with other passengers in that effort”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
9 January (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning went to our mango garden by hills. My aunt Kumari prepared Mysore Pak sweets for us. Came back to home by 11:00. By 1:00 started to Darlapudi and attended a small work there. Came back to home by 2:00. My note on the English film Titanic follows, “The crew can’t see the danger before their eyes on the sea in time. When the ship dashes against iceberg, seawater makes its way into ship. The efforts of the crew at the eleventh hour to save the ship from seawater remain futile. Some pray God playing music to save them. Some move out of the ship tensely, using available lifeboats. Frozen dead bodies appear on sea toward the end of the film. The hero also joins that heap of victims. The entire ship sinks into the sea hinting us to walk out of cinema with heavy hearts”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
10 January (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning watched “Rangoli” program on Delhi Doordarshan. Afternoon watched the Telugu program “Sunday Sandhadi” on Eenadu television channel. Thereafter watched the Telugu feature film “Pelli Koduku Ammabadunu” on television. Evening watched the Telugu feature film “Goodachaari Number One” on television. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 January (Monday)
Got up by 5:30. Started to NRPM railway station by 8:45. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 10:30. Attended the classes by 10:45. The economics lecturer slightly touched his subject and left the class. A team of four friends and I went to cinema Sita Chitra Mandir and saw the English film “Virgin Hunters”. This film presents seductions by youth. Two young men are in their way of finding something secret. They disguise themselves as college girls and manage to coexist with others in a girls’ hostel. Their girlfriend helps them in this regard. They see beautiful naked bodies of college girls when they are bathing. They get sensual enjoyment in such pursuits during their stay in the girls’ hostel. It is an ordinary story. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 January (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to Peda Gummuluru by 9:00. Spent there till 5:30 supervising the ongoing work of our house construction. Night watched television for some time. I am leading a troublesome life now. My heart desires to taste something new. Beautiful girls and women attract me. I want to kiss them with love. My lips desire to touch the soft cheeks and lips of a beautiful girl or woman which comes to the notice of my eyes. My body desires the touch of soft female body. I am worrying a lot with this tantalizing age of my life. My eyes are in search of beauty. I admire beauty. I don’t know how to cool down my wild body. May God bless me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 January (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning went to the house of my uncle Rama Raju at Raja Venkata Nagaram and returned home by 8:15. Rest of the day spent at home. From 2:00 to 5:00 listened to cine songs on radio. My thought follows, “I believe in character building. It is my opinion that before marriage a man or woman should not touch a creature of opposite gender with sexual intent. Marriage means a sacred union of a man and a woman. They should love and live for one other in body and spirit. They should withstand temptations to keep up the purity and specialty of their mutual relationship as wife and husband. Marriage should take place between a virgin and a true bachelor. Otherwise there is no meaning to love or marriage. But such marriages are rarely found in the present perverted society. I want to have such exciting and significant marriage”. Went to sleep by 8:30.
14 January (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today Hindus are observing Bhogi (bonfire) festival. Even today our house construction work went on in Peda Gummuluru. So, I went there by 6:30 and supervised the ongoing construction work for some time. Returned home by 10:00 on bicycle. By 1:00 started to NRPM railway station on bicycle along with a local friend. He wants to buy clothes for Pongal (Sankranti) festival in Elamanchili. He wanted my cooperation in this regard. So, I accompanied him. We reached Elamanchili by 2:00. Went to Kumar Shirts store and purchased readymade clothes. We went to some other stores also. Returned home by 4:00 by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
15 January (Friday)
Got up by 5:00. Today Hindus celebrate Sankranti. Morning and evening prepared food at home. I did not wear new clothes on the occasion of this big festival of Hindus. Spent all the day very casually wearing an old lungi and a half-sleeve shirt. Watched television as usual. I enjoyed nothing specially today. Some say/believe that this festival would be celebrated well in the Indian villages. But such atmosphere did not appear in our village. I felt depressed today because this is the last Sankranti I am observing living in this village. My happy (the tragedy of failure of an imaginary and sensitive love should be taken positively after our beloved is separated from us by destiny. Otherwise one can’t live for long. Death should not be solution to love failures. Those memories of innocent and helpless love are sweet. They should compel us to live) life of admiration for Lakshmi and my friendly relations and attachment with this village would be terminated very soon. I feel very sorry to leave this village. It taught me the purity and enjoyment of admiration for a girl. Lakshmi is great forever though she could not marry me. Marriage is a social relationship. Admiration is a personal worship. I have been a true admirer toward Lakshmi. I am happy for it. This is why I am suffering today thinking of leaving this village soon where Lakshmi lives with her parents and sisters. Went to sleep by 8:30.
16 January (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went out by 9:00 and played at lottery desks (spots of gambling with dice). Today I lost 230 rupees. Returned home by 1:00 and spent rest of the day watching television. Every year, on the day (Kanuma) after Sankranti, a fair takes place in the evening in our village. A team of our villagers (from the community of yadavs) dance with their rhythmic sounds (in our dialect of Telugu, this folk art is called “Thappeta Gullu”. Artists tie small drums to their chests and dance beating them rhythmically). Most of our villagers attend this celebration in their new clothes and the related festive happiness. Previously I attended it but this year I did not like to go there. My mind is sad. So, my body can’t enjoy it. I am leaving this village soon. I cannot celebrate this festival happily. Night also watched television. Went to sleep by 9:00.
17 January (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning watched the Telugu programs “Cine Masaala” and “Paaduthaa Theeyagaa” on Eenadu television channel. Afternoon went to Adduroad on an errand. Evening watched the Telugu feature film “Amaavaasya Chandhrudu” of Kamal Haasan and Madhavi on Gemini television channel. It was fantastic. Went to sleep by 9:00.
18 January (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to Etikoppaka by 9:30. Withdrew 500 rupees from my savings bank account in the State Bank of India. After this withdrawal, only 1070 rupees of balance is there in my account. Returned home by 11:45. Started to Raja Venkata Nagaram by 12:15 on bicycle. Spent at the house of my uncle Rama Raju till 4:00. My maternal grandfather Subba Raju came there from Gollalagunta by 3:30. Both of us came back to our house on bicycle by 5:15. Night there is a social stage drama titled “Challenge” in our village being enacted by our villagers (at the temple of Lord Rama). Attended it by 9:30. This is the last stage play I am watching living in this village. I felt very sleepy after watching part of it. Returned home. Went to sleep by 12:30.
19 January (Tuesday)
Woke up by 6:00. Started to NRPM railway station by 8:45. Reached Elamanchili by 10:00 by Tirumala Express. I thought our college runs today but I knew that it would not run today. It is because Kanaka Maha Lakshmi Fair (a famous celebration in the name of local deity) is being celebrated there today. Today I spent in Elamanchili searching for “Sunday Sandhadi Coupon” published in Telugu daily Eenadu. I asked many creatures for it but failed to get it. So, I went to Lodge Venkateshwara and met the local Eanadu agent. Came back to railway station by 5:00. Reached home by 5:45 by Godavari Express. Today I knew that everything would not be available to us whenever we need them but they are not inaccessible in most cases. Our determination and effort can bring them to us. Went to sleep by 9:00.
20 January (Wednesday)
Got up by 6:00. Today Muslim brethren are celebrating their most sacred festival Ramadan. The Andhra Pradesh government declared a holiday on this occasion. I spent at home in the morning. By 12:45 started to Peda Gummuluru on bicycle along with my friend Krishna Varma. Today I posted filled up “Sunday Sandhadi” contest coupon to Eenadu Television channel in Hyderabad. Spent at our house till 4:00 supervising the construction work in progress. Came back to home by 5:00. From the 10th of this month, the 30th International Film Festival is grandly being celebrated in Hyderabad. Today is the last day of this celebration. I think this celebration helps the capital of Andhra Pradesh attract the attention of world countries. Went to sleep by 9:00.
21 January (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM railway station by 8:45. Reached Elamanchili by 10:30 by Tirumala Express. Moved to our college. Missed the English class. Science and Civilization class went on. Came back to railway station by 12:00. Trains were running late due to derailment of a goods train at Gopalapatnam near Visakhapatnam. So, my friend Dara Konda and I proceeded to cinema Parameswari and saw the Telugu film “Premante Idheraa” in matinee show. It is an enjoyable film. Reached home by 6:00 by Godavari Express. Coming to home, I knew that the youngest son (the second one who was born very recently) of my brother Srinivas (who is presently at Ambala Cantonment) is ill due to a disorder in bowels in his digestive system. So, to know about it in person (representing our parents and younger brother Sambha at home. Later I felt hurt to know that the relatives of my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani were hurt to know that a useless fellow (small in age and weak in financial status) like me was sent to attend such serious situation of an infant) I reached Jaggampeta by 1:00 by lorry.
22 January (Friday)
Woke up by no time because I did not sleep last night. The illness to the baby was caused due to lack of hole in the bowel section of his stomach. A famous children’s specialist came to Jaggampeta from Swatantra Hospitals in Rajahmundry. He is the Managing Director of those hospitals there. The operation was successful but the baby was weak because food was not digested in him so far. By this operation his digestive system would become perfect. The tense hearts of his nearest relatives recovered after successful completion of this operation. The baby is being supplied food in the form of saline water. He recovers soon. Went to Molleru Mallavaram and spent there till 2:00. Took a van and returned to Jaggampeta. Went to Venkateshwara Clinic of Dr Satya Krishna (wherein my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani was admitted for her delivery). Talked with my sister-in-law for some time. Took a lorry and reached Adduroad by 6:00. Went to sleep by 8:00.
23 January (Saturday)
Got up by 5:00. Went to Peda Gummuluru by 9:00. Today I am the supervisor of the ongoing work of our house construction. Today I went to various shops in Adduroad and asked them for the “Sunday Sandhadi” coupons. Nobody was ready to give them though they don’t need them because they can’t use them. Man became very selfish in the present society. One can easily blame the penury or helplessness of others but can’t help them a little bit too. I think nature (consisting of five elements) and other phenomena in this creation act in tune to the nature (contemporary human psychology and their related selfish acts) of the living earthly beings. So are all these fatal diseases and natural calamities. Went to sleep by 9:00.
24 January (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Morning spent watching television. Reached Tuni by 4:00 along with my uncle Narayana Murthy. We did shopping from 5:00 to 7:00. This is in view of the ensuing occasion of our “Gruha Pravesham” (the formal entry of a family into a new house). We returned home by 9:00. Went to sleep by 10:00.
25 January (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day I was engaged in the preparatory works of our ensuing Gruha Pravesham (an auspicious and ceremonious entry into a new house under the supervision of a priest and the attendance of many near and dear ones and the feast thereof). My farewell message to this village of Ramayyapatnam or Kothuru follows, “I spent the dreamiest age of my life in this village. We moved into this rented house around June 1992 from our thatched hut in the vast mango garden of the Kshatriyas of Tangedu, situated near the hills, to the west of this village. We lived here for more than six years. Here I spent such age, which craves for the flavor of possessive love. The beautiful girl Lakshmi filled my life with that asset of love. Her love for me remains a sweet remembrance to me forever. Thank you God and my dear Lakshmi! I am sorry Lakshmi for leaving you here and going away from your village. I played my temporary role of lover to you. Now I am supposed to desert the stage of this village. Humans are mortals but love which fills human minds with unforgettable memories in the world is timeless and divine. We are also partners in that wealth of the world”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
26 January (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day I was engaged in the preparatory works of our Gruha Pravesham. Went to Peda Gummuluru by 10:00. My brother Srinivas and his father-in-law Satya Narayana Raju came from Jaggampeta by 12:30. Cooking activities are going on. My maternal aunts and other women of our familiar families are restlessly involved in it. My uncle Satya Narayana Raju and I went to Etikoppaka by a bus to purchase vegetables in the weekly market there. We came back to home by 8:00. My maternal uncle Krishnam Raju came from Gollalagunta. By 8:30 my uncle Rama Krishnam Raju, uncle Satya Narayana Raju and uncle Krishnam Raju came from village Ramula Devapuram (Tank Bead). Two electricians are actively working at our new house in Peda Gummuluru to make lights shine at any cost by the time we enter it ceremoniously tomorrow. Evening I took supper to some relatives resting at our new house in Peda Gummuluru. Went to sleep by 11:00.
27 January (Wednesday)
Got up by 4:00. My parents moved to Peda Gummuluru by 4:30 in an auto rickshaw. All the relatives had already left for our new house at Peda Gummuluru. Our Gruha Pravesham occasion took place by 9:30 a.m. in a traditional way. I wore a new pair of clothes today. Tea, breakfast and lunch were served well to all the guests and invitees. By and large, the entire occasion went on well. By today our long relationship with the village of Ramayyapatnam (Kothuru or Raajula Kothuru or Station Kothuru) is disconnected by our permanent move to our own house in Peda Gummuluru. We faced some problems at the rented house as tenants. Now we got rid of them having our house. Thank you all my gods. Hereafter take care of my innocent Lakshmi and her intelligent village. Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 January (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Some of our relatives have already left for their homes. My maternal aunt Satyavathi (an expert in cooking and a victim of obesity) stayed back for helping my mother. My uncle Ramakrishnam Raju (the husband of my maternal aunt Satyavathi) left for their village by 1:00. I am feeling uneasy to accustom to these new surroundings. Hope that I will recover soon. I am feeling disturbed to be detached from Ramayyapatnam. Life is not in the hands of man. I am in such helpless position now. It is odd blend of happiness and sorrow at a time. Sorrow for leaving the village where I lived for long and happiness for entering our new house. But sorrow is dominating. What to do? My mind is not under my control. It is filled with sorrow. May God bless me. I kept myself away from going to our college for the last ten days. Our house is located in Peda Gummuluru beside main road to Narsipatnam from Adduroad Junction. Went to sleep by 9:00.
29 January (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to Narsipatnam Road railway station (two kilometers from our new house and half a kilometer from our old rented house) on bicycle by 8:45. Tirumala Express (from Tirupati to Visakhapatnam) was running two hours late. Reached Elamanchili by 11:30. Directly went to cinema Tulasi Chitra Mandir and saw the English film “Alexandra”. It is a moving story of a young and pretty girl trapped in the whirlpool of sexual abuse. Greedy men of a society cheat an innocent teenager in the name of love. The innocent face and the buttery body of the young heroine fascinated me so much that I saw the same film second time today itself (I am a psychopath while fascinated by her physical beauty and a human being when pitying her character). The enticing body of the heroine, which has been exploited by many in the film, is a special attraction for viewers. She remains a dream girl for many for some nights (male or female beauty is honored by the interested parties (wife, husband, beloved and the lover) when carefully preserved behind the clothes and is inhumanly treated by all when exhibited publicly in art forms or in real life situations. The ones that exhibit their physical beauty publicly on their own interest remain the symbols of enjoyment for the ordinary public. Many enjoy seeing human nakedness. So, it is those that are going naked that need to think many times before doing it. The consequences must be carefully analyzed). Returned home by 6:00 by Godavari Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
30 January (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 6:45 on bicycle. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Visakhapatnam by 9:30. Went to the office of SRMT at Daba Gardens and collected the parcel of my gift hamper sent by the Thums Up staff at Eenadu television channel in Hyderabad. The gift hamper consisted of a blue bag (with the name of Thums Up), a blue windcheater and a collarless T-shirt (with a terrific human figure in the front). Saw the Telugu film “Saahasa Kanyalu” (the dubbed version of a Chinese film). Returned home by 6:00 by Godavari Express. I undertook the to and fro train journeys without a ticket (how can English films be seen if one buys costly train tickets in one’s teenage, especially crazy guys of poverty and madness like me). Went to sleep by 9:00.
31 January (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home casually. The annual fair is going on by seashore at village Revu Polavaram on the occasion of “Maagha Pournami”. It was started yesterday evening and ends this night. Many visitors take a holy dip in seawater on this auspicious occasion. My farewell to January.
1 February (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 6:45 along with my friend Krishna Varma. We reached Visakhapatnam by 9:30. I attended an interview in Hotel Ananth at Dwaraka Nagar. One hundred candidates attended this interview. Only 20 candidates were selected out of them including me. The selected candidates were told to attend a meeting in the evening in the same hotel. G Rama Rao, the General Manager of the recruiting organization, presided over this meeting. Five other high cadre people of the organization addressed the candidates from 4:00 to 6:00. The name of this organization is Jana Chaitanya Housing Corporation Limited. Both of us came back to railway station in an auto rickshaw. Reached home by 11:00 by Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada passenger. Went to sleep by 11:30.
2 February (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM railway station by 5:30. Reached Visakhapatnam by 7:00 by Godavari Express. Went to the divisional office of Jana Chaitanya Housing Corporation Private Limited at Railway New Colony near cinema Sree Kanya. Today they conducted training program for us new recruits. It is the number one real estate company in south India. It has eight branches in Andhra Pradesh. It was founded and developed by Madala Sudhakar, Guntur, the present chairman of this real estate company. Its present turnover is substantial. They gave us some brochures and site maps. They told us to bring interested customers to the site of their plots. May Lord Gopal bless me. I worried to miss classes today attending this program. Went to sleep by 9:00.
3 February (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00 on bicycle. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. Went to public library and spent there till 8:45. Attended the classes by 9:00. Today English, Economics and History classes went on. Afternoon had tiffin for eight rupees at Ambika Tea Stall. Came back to railway station by 2:00. Slept on an iron bench for some time to rest. Had general talk with our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao (he is a Christian and my beloved lecturer) at station about the spread of Christianity in India in the recent times. Recently some wild Hindus created unrest in India attacking, raping and killing a few Christians. Went to sleep by 9:00.
4 February (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. Went to public library by 8:00 and spent there till 8:45. Today English, Economics and History classes went on. Came back to railway station by 1:00. Bokaro-Alleppey Express was running two hours late. Waited for it sitting on an iron bench. Reached home by 3:30 by Bokaro-Alleppey Express. Recently a girl student of government junior college in Elamanchili committed suicide in her house at Nehru Nagar in Elamanchili. Teenage is very dangerous. Body prompts one to resort to wrong ways of enjoyment but the traditional society won’t accept it. So, they take hasty decision of suicide. They know how to create problems on their own but not how to solve or face them boldly. Went to sleep by 9:00.
5 February (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00 on bicycle. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. Spent some time in our college premises. Today History and Economics classes went on. By 12:15 a small meeting of Lok Satta (a voluntary organization spread across Andhra Pradesh) was held near our college. The local head of this organization presided over the meeting. Dr. Jaya Prakash Narayan, an I.A.S. officer from Andhra Pradesh, is the chairman of this organization. He voluntarily left his position of district collector some years ago and founded this organization to fight against corruption and other disorders in India. He is one of the active intellectuals and social reformers of India now. Afternoon had tiffin for nine rupees at Ambika Tea Stall. Reached home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Night spent casually. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 February (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. Spent some time at public library. Today only History class went on. Today, in our class, we filled in the application forms related to the ensuing second year B.A. annual examinations. Examination fee is 100 rupees, stationery (paper used for making our question and answer sheets) fee is 50 rupees and marks list (handwritten numbers on recycled paper) fee is five rupees. The total fee to be paid along with the application form is 155 rupees. Afternoon saw the English film “House of Love”. Had my lunch at Ambika Tea Stall. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 February (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home. After moving to Peda Gummuluru, I am feeling a bit comfortable. Our house faces east. So, we can see the beautiful sun in the morning. Went to sleep by 9:00.
8 February (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00 on bicycle. Reached Elamanchili by 7:30 and walked toward the recently constructed bus station. From today our half-yearly examinations start. The first paper is English. I prepared very little for it. The timing of the examination is from 9:00 to 1:00 but many students return their partially attempted answer papers very soon. They don’t pay much attention to these examinations. I did this examination very well. Came out of the examination room by 12:00. Today I paid my examination fee. Went to Ambika Tea Stall and had four samosas for six rupees. From 2:00 to 3:00 helped my close friend Ashok in preparing the examination fee payment details (assigned to him by our college) at his home. Came back to railway station by 3:20. Reached home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
9 February (Tuesday)
Got up by 5:00. Today I have my Hindi paper at college but I did not go because the senior staff of Jana Chaitanya Housing Pvt. Ltd. told me over telephone that they would come to our house today to meet some people in our locality. But they did not come. From 3:00 to 6:00 prepared Population Development Analysis record (part of college assignments) for the sake of my friend Ramesh Kumar of final year B.A. I felt much disappointed at the absence of the aforesaid folks. My thought follows, “Indians lack punctuality. After independence (in 1947) corruption became pervasive in India. Now it is growing well. If this evil continues so in India, the ordinary people suffer a lot. A pacifist like Mahatma Gandhi or an extremist like Adolf Hitler (if one is born at all with those qualities) can’t uproot this disorder from the Indian society. Only ruthless punishments to the guilty (tried and sentenced in a very fast way) are the right solution. Otherwise nobody can lift India up from its trashcan of penury and underdevelopment”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
10 February (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00. Skimmed my history notes for some time. Attended the history exam by 10:00. Answered one essay question only. Thereafter helped our History Lecturer C Surya Sobhan (with a handsome look, competent depth of subject and mesmerizing teaching skills. He teaches in argumentative style taking a fact from history. He tells us to actively participate in debate in the classroom among ourselves. ‘Speaking out’ is important, not ‘what we speak’. Innovative thoughts do not emerge unless a debate heats up among ordinary or extraordinary pupils/people of a classroom, society or nation. He is my favorite lecturer in our degree college) in preparing a report carrying the details of examination fee payment by second year B.A. students. Afternoon had tiffin for six rupees at Ambika Tea Stall. By 2:00 attended the English film “Hero Dream” in cinema Tulasi Chitra Mandir. It is a Chinese production. It is an action oriented terror film peppered with minute sex. When man and woman (both the genders of the world) are left free in their world of sexual enjoyment, no limits stay over there. They become perverts in their wild and unethical pursuits, which is undesirable for the healthy functioning of a civilized and moral society. Returned home by 5:45 by Godavari Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 February (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00. Reached Elamanchili by 7:30 by Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger. Scanned my economics notes for some time. Did my economics paper somewhat well. Afternoon had tiffin for five rupees at a hotel near cinema Tulasi Chitra Mandir. Came back to railway station by 1:30 and found that Bokaro-Alleppey Express had already left. Went back and spent some time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Came back to railway station by 3:20. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:15. Our half-yearly exams seem to be waste of time. Students don’t sit systematically nor are asked to do those exams well. They do it as they like. Night listened to Telugu cine songs on radio. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 February (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00. Took Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. Today we have politics paper. I did not prepare well for it. So, I did not do well in this examination. Today a blood donation camp was organized in our college. They asked the college students to donate blood voluntarily. Only 12 students donated their blood. Some of the college staff also donated their blood. Three hundred milliliters of blood was taken from healthy bodies. A doctor checked the blood pressure of the volunteers before allowing them to donate blood. I too donated my blood for the first time in my life. They gave me a pack of mango fruit juice. I recovered from dizziness soon after the blood collection. I felt very happy to donate my blood because it may help doctors save a life at least in the critical condition of a patient. God blessed me with healthy body with all equipment. If it can be useful to others in some way, it should be a matter of joy for me. Returned home by 4:15 by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 February (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 7:00. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. Today we have Science and Civilization paper. I did not prepare well for it but did this paper with my creativity. Today, from morning 6:00 to evening 8:00, I suffered from hiccups. I tried much in various ways (one is stopping breathing for a few seconds) but failed to avoid them. Blood donation can be voluntarily done when a donor is considerably energetic and generous but what bothers one is lack of helping nature in doctors. They know how to collect blood freely from good people of the society but not how to save poor people of the society in their critical health conditions. Returned home by Bokaro-Alleppey Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
14 February (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today it is “Maha Shiva Raathri”. My salutes to Lord Shiva. Today I spent all my time at home casually. Went to sleep by 9:00.
15 February (Monday)
Got up by 5:00. Today our degree college observes a holiday. It is because some devotees of Lord Shiva remain sleepless throughout the night (last night) observing Mahaa Shiva Raathri. So, some students and staff may feel sleepy today which is not good to be observed in a classroom environment. To avoid all that, this holiday today. Today I spent at home very commonly. My prayer to Lord Shiva follows, “Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya, Om Namassivaaya. Went to sleep by 9:00.
16 February (Tuesday)
Got up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 6:45. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Elamanchili by 8:00. Went to public library and spent there till 9:00. Today History class went on. Today, the names of college students, interested to participate in the quiz competition, which is to be held soon, on the occasion of ensuing College Anniversary, were collected. I had heavy lunch today, which consisted of bananas for five rupees, samosas for three rupees and sweets for three rupees. Came back to railway station by 2:00. Spent talking with our lecturers there for some time. Returned home by 4:40 by Tirumala Express. From 5:00 to 9:00 wrote long letter of appreciation to Sailaja Mithra in Hyderabad responding to her Telugu poetry titled “Murali Naadham” which appeared in Telugu weekly Andhra Bhoomi. Went to sleep by 10:00.
17 February (Wednesday)
Got up by 5:00. Spent at home till 8:30. Then took our bicycle and proceeded to post office (very near to our house). Stamped and posted the letter addressed to Sailaja Mithra in Hyderabad. Thence moved to railway station. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 9:30. Today Economics and English classes went on. Came back soon to railway station and caught Bokaro-Alleppey Express by 12:15. Reached home by 1:00. Afternoon spent my time casually. Recently the Government of Madhya Pradesh honored the Music Director Ilaiyaraaja with the “Lata Mangeshkar Award”. I felt happy to know it. He is my most favorite music director in India. I am a devoted admirer and listener of a number of Telugu and Tamil cine songs to which he composed music. Good artistes of the film industry affectionately call him “Maestro Ilaiyaraaja”. He deserves that title cent percent. His music takes me into a fictional and blissful world of liberty and elation. Went to sleep by 9:00.
18 February (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM railway station by 8:45. Reached Elamanchili by 9:30 by Tirumala Express. Today English and Economics classes went on. Afternoon had tiffin for six rupees at Ambika Tea Stall. Came back to station and knew that Bokaro-Alleppey Express was running very late (indefinite late) today. So, went back to the general store of my friend Ashok and copied English essays from a guide into his notebook for him. Came back to station by 3:20 and found our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao waiting for the (our) train. Spent talking with him for some time and got a little general awareness about the world. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:20. Evening and night spent writing notes for my friend Ashok for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
19 February (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 8:45 and reached Elamanchili by 9:30 by Tirumala Express. Today classes did not take place. From 10:30 to 11:30 a quiz was conducted in the classroom of final year B.A. for our college students. Twelve teams participated in this event. Each team has five students. Our team got second place in this quiz competition but there would be consideration and prize distribution for the first place winners only. Came back to railway station by 1:00 and knew that Bokaro-Alleppey Express had already left. Went back and spent my time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Reached home by 4:15 by Tirumala Express. Today, Nitish Kumar, the Minister of Railways at the center, launched Shathaabdhi Express (which runs between Rajahmundry and Secunderabad stations). Night watched Telugu cine songs on Hyderabad Doordarshan. Went to sleep by 9:00.
20 February (Saturday)
Got up by 5:00. Went to NRPM station by 9:00 and reached Elamanchili by 9:30 by Tirumala Express. Today classes did not go on. “Clean and Green” program (a program of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, initiated by the present Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, wherein native people and students must participate voluntarily in the social responsibility of keeping the local environment clean by their own efforts) was going on in our college premises. Came back to station by 12:00 and knew that Bokaro-Alleppey Express was running at indefinite late time (more than eight hours late). Went back and had tiffin for ten rupees at a hotel by station road. Then went to a nearby sugarcane collection center (which belongs to the Etikoppaka Cooperative Sugar Factory at Darlapudi where my father is working as a Boiler Attender) and had some sugarcane. Reached home by 6:00 by Godavari Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
21 February (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home. Morning watched “Sri Krishna” program on Doordarshan. Afternoon did a bit of reading. These days I am not well. My salutes to Lord Krishna. Went to sleep by 9:00.
22 February (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 10:30. Today Economics and History classes went on. Afternoon had a dozen small bananas and a glass of buttermilk. Came back to station and knew that Bokaro-Alleppey Express had already left. Went back to our college along with my classmate Ashok and spent talking with him for some time. Returned home by 4:00 by Tirumala Express. Spent rest of the day very casually. Recently I found my right eyebrow swollen. I am taking tablets for recovery from it but no complete cure was found. My right eye is looking small due to this. My digestive system also became weak recently. I think all these disorders are nicely attacking me one after one due to lack of enough blood in my body. The doctor left enough blood in my body for my personal needs. It may not be the real cause for these minor disorders. They attack anybody anytime just like that. May it be cured soon. Went to sleep by 9:00.
23 February (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 9:00 and reached our college by 10:00. Today History, Economics and Science and Civilization classes went on. Afternoon had a dozen small bananas. Came back to railway station by 1:30. Took Bokaro-Alleppey Express and reached home by 2:00. Today I prepared from my history notes. My thought follows, “I don’t like to keep pets like dogs. Our love for them is an issue related to our mind but action is necessary for their well-being. When we bring them to our house, we need to take care of them on a daily basis. Our casual negligence toward them becomes a permanent problem to them. So, it is better to avoid bringing them to our house altogether rather than hurting them indirectly not paying enough attention toward them. They know how to look after themselves when away from us. When we bring them to our house, they depend upon us for their food and happiness, which we may fail to attend justifiably. Love for them is an easy concept but true service to them is a difficult pursuit”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
24 February (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached NRPM station by 9:00. Attended our college by 10:00 by Tirumala Express. Today Economics, History and Hindi classes went on. Afternoon had small bananas for four rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Came back to station by 2:00 and wrote some text in English on “Janma Bhoomi” program for a final year B.A. student. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:00. Went to Adduroad by 4:30 and consulted the son (himself a doctor and his brother is also a doctor practicing in our nearby village China Gummuluru) of Kerala Doctor (who came from the state of Kerala years ago to practice his primary medical knowledge on the poor rural people of Andhra Pradesh) about the disorder of my swollen eyebrow. He injected a medical liquid into my right shoulder and prescribed ten tablets named “CITIFLOX-250” of “CRIPS” for me. He took ten rupees as consultation fee. Night too I wrote on “Janma Bhoomi” and “Friendship” in Telugu for a final year B.A. student (the text on friendship is meant for being given to his close friends before leaving the college after the ensuing final exams). It is my social service to others. Went to sleep by 9:00.
25 February (Thursday)
Got up by 5:00. Went to NRPM station by 9:00. Reached our college by 9:45. Today one or two classes went on but I did not attend them. Today I participated in the essay writing competitions being conducted on the occasion of the forthcoming College Anniversary. From 10:00 to 11:00 in English, from 11:00 to 11:45 in Hindi and from 12:00 to 1:00 in Telugu. The topics for these three essay writing competitions are as follows in order, English: “Introduction of Restructured Courses at College Level”, Hindi: “Saampradaayik Jhagade Banaam Des Ki Tharakki” and Telugu: “Is Stability Possible to Coalition Governments” (the English translation of Telugu topic). I did well in these three competitions. Reached home by 4:00 by Tirumala Express. Evening wrote a letter to my friend. Went to sleep by 9:00.
26 February (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 8:45. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 10:00. Today Elocution and Songs Competitions were conducted in the classroom of final year B.A. I spoke in English. The topic for elocution in Telugu, Hindi and English is “The Impact of ‘Janma Bhoomi’ on the Attitudes of Indians”. Many students expressed their views in different ways. I got first prize in elocution in English. I did not participate in the songs competition (because I don’t possess that art, which should be blest by God). Both the events went on very interestingly. Afternoon had a plate of vegetable biryani for six rupees at Udipi Hotel. Spent some time at railway station talking with our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao. Reached home by 4:20 by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 8:30.
27 February (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM station by 9:00. Reached Elamanchili by 10:00 by Tirumala Express. Today final year B.A. students celebrated their farewell function in their classroom. Today only Economics class went on (our economics lecturer P Prabhakara Rao rarely teaches his supposed subject. He talks about general things of society, film industry or nation. He is basically from West Godavari district and presently living in and coming from Kakinada. He says that many of his contemporary or familiar students are presently film actors and politicians like Chiranjeevi and Bala Yogi. In the entire academic year, he teaches his subject in three or four classes only. Students never feel bored in his class. He is an expert in that special art. He is the most favorite lecturer to majority of our college students. He receives everybody with a smiling face. I am one of his most beloved students in this college. We behave like friends). He discussed ordinary issues. Afternoon had two samosas and one plate of jalebi for six rupees at Ambika Tea Stall. Spent some time at railway station. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:30. Evening wrote a long letter in Telugu to my sister-in-law Sowjanya at Molleru Mallavaram. Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 February (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home. Afternoon my mother returned from Gollalagunta. She said that my maternal grandmother (her mother) was admitted into Government General Hospital in Kakinada. She was attacked by a psychological disorder. Went to sleep by 9:00.
1 March (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached NRPM station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 10:00. Today only Economics class went on. Went to cinema Venkateshwara and saw the English film “Who Am I” of Jackie Chan in the morning show. His films are known for awesome action and exciting fights. I like the physical strength of Chinese and their heroic action in films. The big and attractive buildings in various European countries tell one how rich those countries are. Comparatively India seems less developed. I enjoyed watching this film very much. Afternoon had a few bananas. Came back to railway station by 3:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:45. Recently I started taking the ayurvedic liver tonic Livosin (the name of syrup) to cure the disorders of my digestive system caused by my disorderly food habits. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 March (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 8:30. Reached our college by 9:30 by Tirumala Express. It was kept closed. Knew that our college observes a holiday today due to the effect of celebrations of Holi festival (a crazy Indian festival, which allows people to be drenched in colors as a symbol of exchange of friendship and love among beloved ones, the celebration of which I don’t like personally). I did not like to waste my time and so proceeded to cinema Parameswari and saw the Telugu film “Sneham Kosam”. It is a good film based on sentimental values of human relationships. It highlights the greatness of friendship. Chiranjeevi acted commendably in this film playing two roles (as father and son). Went to a hotel and had a plain dosa. Came back to station and took Tirumala Express. Reached home by 4:10. Evening went to Adduroad on an errand. Listened to Hanuman Chalisa (a Hindu prayer praising Lord Hanuman) for some time at the temple of Lord Hanuman. Night listened to Telugu cine songs on radio for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
3 March (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Started to NRPM station by 8:45. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 10:00. Today History and Science and Civilization classes went on. Afternoon I did not have my lunch due to financial crisis. Took Bokaro-Alleppey Express and reached home by 3:00. Today my father gave me 300 rupees for my monthly expenses. I have been receiving 200 rupees only per month from him for many months for my B.A. education. In the present environment, it becomes very difficult for me to maintain myself with this little amount of money. He is illiterate and ignorant and so can’t understand how to be financially helpful to his son. Moreover he is interested in saving money and buying agricultural land. I will teach him a lesson later. Went to sleep by 9:00.
4 March (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM station by 9:00. Reached our college by 10:00. Today Science and Civilization and Economics classes went on. Afternoon had four idlies at a hotel by station road. When I sat in the hotel, a woman came there and spoke in Hindi. I thought she was mentally well. I told (translating her Hindi words for the sake of the hotelier) the head of the hotel to serve her a cup of tea. She had it and went away not paying for it. I paid one rupee to the hotelier on her behalf. I thanked God for it was not a meal case (for which I need to pay much to the hotelier for my mistake of talking with a Hindi speaking woman). But she was careful regarding the maintenance of her body. She carefully bathed herself at a tap in the railway station, dressed up herself well and moved toward Visakhapatnam by a train. She was mentally a little ill. Returned home by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 8:30.
5 March (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 9:30. Today very few students attended our class. Only History class went on. Map pointing was done in it. Perhaps today’s may be the last class in our second year B.A. education. Spent some time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Went to a fruit stall and bought ten small bananas for four rupees for my lunch. Had one glass of buttermilk also. Then moved to cinema Sita Chitra Mandir and saw the English film “Cave Girl Island-Beach Babes-II”. It is a time pass film with a bit of sensual touch. Came back to station by 4:10. Took Godavari Express and reached home by 5:45. Night listened to radio for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 March (Saturday)
I would write here about my short tour to Government General Hospital in Kakinada. I went there on 6th and returned home by 9th. My report about this tour follows, “Recently my maternal grandmother Buchchiyyamma was admitted into this hospital. She is about 68. She failed to identify others due to a disorder in her brain. She almost behaves like a mad person. Day or night she does not maintain herself properly. She does not take food, beverages or medicines. My maternal aunts Raja Kumari, Bhaskaram and Satyavathi are helping their mother with much patience. My mother (the eldest daughter in that family) can’t spend for much time in such chaotic conditions and so kept herself away from that place (to avoid herself becoming a patient). Everybody lost the hope of her recovery (continued).
7 March (Sunday)
The staff in this hospital demand bribe. Many doctors also belong to this category. Corruption is prevalent from the bottom to the top in this hospital. Patients and their relatives are facing hell due to this atmosphere. It seems nobody can save the helpless lives of the poor.
8 March (Monday)
I saw two films in Kakinada during my stay over there; the Telugu film “Anthahapuram” in cinema Sridevi and the English film “Divine Lovers” in cinema Crown Talkies. The English film has a good fictional love story based on history. The story revolves around the Khajuraho temples in Madhya Pradesh. On these temples, various postures of human sexual life are artistically carved. It is an enjoyable film. During these four days, I had my food in hotels and often walked through streets observing beautiful buildings. I spent 100 rupees during this time. I undertook my to and fro journeys for Samalkot without ticket. My paternal grandfather Thammi Raju came along with me to see the patient in hospital. My maternal uncle Varma accompanied me for two days. I found the wards and the environment in the hospital defaced and dirty (continued).
9 March (Tuesday)
The bodily look being maintained by nurses and nursing students caught my eyes. The nursing students are rendering real human service to patients. I felt disgusted and annoyed to spend for three days in such miserable environment. But it should be appreciated that doctors (who daily spend there treating patients), nurses, nursing students and sanitary staff spend most of their time in that atmosphere. Toilets are being cleaned daily. Ignorant and undisciplined patients are soiling toilets. My eyes wanted to talk with the eyes of the nursing students (beautiful angels with pretty bodies and white uniforms). Their beauty is thus getting wasted in service to patients. I don’t know if they have seductions by their superiors, colleagues and subordinates (general talk in society). That age dominates one’s controlling power. The account of my recent experiences in Kakinada ends”.
10 March (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home very casually. Spent most of the time simply lying on cot. The atmosphere of Government General Hospital in Kakinada still lingers on me. Morning and night rice, curry, egg, milk, and bread are being served freely to helpless patients. The rooms always smell bad but one thing must be appreciated that the sanitary staff are daily cleaning toilets and wards of the patients. Every day the hospital looks crowded with many general patients and accident cases. The relatives of poor patients cook their food in unhygienic open places by hospital. They can’t buy costly food items in the city. They are already financially and mentally suffering with their patients. Poverty and suffering are predominant phenomena in India. Anyhow the government hospitals are playing a commendable role in healing the poor to some extent. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 March (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning and evening prepared food at home. My report on my recent visit to Kakinada follows, “Neatly dressed up nursing students are attractions for young guys like me. I pity the virgin beauty of teenagers. Nursing students are spending their helpless lives with their ripe beauties and the associated compelling forces toward mistake. Their gender related sensitivity and fear keep them under control. In my opinion, marriage should be done at proper age to a boy or a girl. Carnal desires influence teenagers intolerably. Mutual attraction between a girl and a boy is hard to be resisted by ordinary folks in society. That attraction is God’s gift to humanity. It takes dangerous forms when one goes astray (being carried away by basic instincts of body). Mutual attractions and fantasies are common among teenagers. Teenage is God’s gift. A prudent one should enjoy it properly (strictly following moral standards in personal life set by us for ourselves). May the world of teenagers be happy”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 March (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent much of my time at home. Evening my uncle Satya Narayana Raju came from Jaggampeta and took me to Kota Uratla along with him (for company) to attend a small work there. We returned home by 6:00. My thought follows, “Corruption became the easiest way to be followed by everybody (with some money generating resources at hand from which something can be swindled carefully) to earn a lot in a short time. It does not matter much for the rich because many of them are also traveling in the same route or that they know how to tackle these scoundrels of the society with their power of richness or other kind of fame. The wise and the skilled ones in some fields of public human interaction also know how to deal with these blokes even if they are not much rich. It is innocent and ignorant masses that are being badly victimized by this social evil ‘pervasive corruption in public places’. Yet it should be accepted that some rich people (who follow good ways of earning money) are contributing well to the welfare of the poor. Corruption disappears from society soon, when it is powerfully opposed by one and all (the public at large), at all levels, through progressive violence (not wounding or killing people who represent corruption physically but bringing them to the right way frightening them mentally in good ways to the most possible extent)”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 March (Saturday)
Got up by 5:00. Reached our degree college by 4:00 taking a bus from Adduroad. Today the 12th College Annual Day Celebrations are being observed at our college. P Chalapati Rao, the local M.L.A. and Prem Kumar, the organizing secretary of Y.C.O. (Youth Charitable Organization, a voluntary organization based at Elamanchili with a lot of funds coming from foreign countries) are the chief guests of the occasion. They said that Arudhra (a famous figure in modern Telugu literature and Telugu film industry) Sri Sri (a renowned Telugu writer and radical thinker) and Gurajada Apparao (a noted social reformer and Telugu writer, after whom our degree college is named) were born in this locality. The celebration went on between 5:00 and 9:00. I received five prizes in Essay Writing, Elocution and Quiz competitions. Returned home by 9:30. Went to sleep by 10:00.
14 March (Sunday)
Spent most of my time at home casually. Evening listened to cine songs on radio. By 4:00 went to Adduroad on bicycle and bought vegetables in the weekly market there. Night too listened to radio. Went to sleep by 9:00.
15 March (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home casually. Evening ironed some clothes and cleaned and oiled our two bicycles. My thought follows, “I wonder to find inescapable mutual attraction between females and males in this world. Who installed such emotions and passions in both for one another? It is the central force helping the living generations continue one after another filling the world with all its beautiful and vibrant phenomena and the related joys and tribulations. Even ignorant people and uncivilized tribes are continuing their race participating in this universal phenomenon of coitus. Physical union of living beings and growth of creatures in wombs within a period of time seems to be a visible mystery”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
16 March (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent much of my time at home. Evening went to Adduroad to attend a work. Today I started my preparation for the ensuing annual exams. Many think that one should complete preparing every lesson soon after it ends in classroom. I too know it pretty well. I prepared notes well for all my five subjects putting in much effort. But I failed to read and remember them when there was plenty of time to do it. Now, in this hurry of time limitations, I must finish the preparation of every subject in a fast way. Today I prepared history sitting in easy chair all the time. My prayers to Lord Gopal and Mother Saraswati. Went to sleep by 9:00.
17 March (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared history. Today I received a complimentary copy of Telugu weekly Andhra Prabha from Hyderabad by post. They sent it to me as a gift because my question sent to Malathi Chandur (a noted figure in the field of contemporary women writers in Telugu. She is dealing with a question and answer column in this weekly) was selected as the best question of the week recently. The publisher of this weekly stated that the winner would be gifted 50 rupees. Let me see what happens! I sent my question on a competition postcard to this writer’s address in Madras three months ago. Now it is answered by her and is published in this book. The English translation of my question in Telugu to her is: “In the present political scenario of India, not a single party is getting complete majority to form government at the center. There is no stability of coalition governments. Can democracy be successful in India in this atmosphere?” She answered my question from a broad perspective implying that it does not affect democracy in India at all. I am not satisfied with her answer. Went to sleep by 9:00.
18 March (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:15. Today I prepared history staying at home all the day. Today Hindus (Telugu people in particular wherever they are) celebrate “Ugadi” festival (the first day of Telugu year). From today the Telugu year “Pramaadhi” starts. According to forecasts made by subject experts (almanac readers), this year brings unexpected dangers into many spheres of human life. Who can foresee reality except running wheel of endless time? Evening watered whitewashed walls of our house (the external surfaces). Owing to continuous reading, my eyes are getting tired. Because of sitting in chair for a long time, my digestive system is getting affected a bit. I can’t find alternative except continuing the same system of preparation. Went to sleep by 8:00.
19 March (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Most of the day stayed at home and prepared history. By 9:00 went to our mango garden at hills on bicycle and gave food carrier to my brother Sambha. He was supervising garden work there. Returned home soon. Today the local marketing executive of the Telugu newspaper Eenadu came to our house and asked if we want to book the newspaper for its daily supply to us by paperboy. My mother told him that there is no need of newspaper for us. I turned furious and scolded her for her ignorance and stupidity. I questioned what she knows about newspapers. My parents are crazy folks of illiteracy, ignorance, stupidity and superstitions. They are too blind to have rational thinking. I am facing many problems at home because of their ignorance. I curse myself for having born in this family. Went to sleep by 9:00.
20 March (Saturday)
Got up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared history. Today my parents left for Gollalagunta to see our ailing maternal grandparents, maternal grandmother in particular, who has been ill for long. Still she is unable to recognize others (she became so (mentally disabled lacking memory of the past) because of so much of family burdens on her mind. My grandfather (her husband) left the responsibility of his two sons and four daughters to her. He lives like a hermit. It is not a good practice after knowingly begetting six children in his personal account). On the way they go to Molleru Mallavaram to see their daughter-in-law and grandsons. Recently a high breed black dog (looks terrific and is meant for use in hunt for wild animals) was brought to our home. The former one was given to some other person in this village. Often it comes to our house and gets scared to face the big one (I pity it). Went to sleep by 9:30.
21 March (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home. Today I prepared history. Evening I became sick all of a sudden. My salutes to Lord Gopal. Went to sleep by 9:00.
22 March (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I felt physically ill and so cancelled my preparation today. Spent all the day casually. Listened to radio now and then. By 4:00 my parents returned from Gollalagunta finishing their three-day tour. They said that my maternal grandmother is still in the same condition. She is not eating food properly. If left freely outside, she is going away in some direction. So, they are locking her in a room at night. Now her sons (my maternal uncles Appala Narasimha Raju (Varma) and Krishnam Raju) are trying talisman. May she be healed soon to avoid the suffering of her bodyguards (her patient daughters and impatient sons). Today it was cloudy and cool. Evening went to Adduroad and bought some tablets for the remedy of my physical weakness caused by vomiting yesterday. Went to sleep by 9:30.
23 March (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared economics. By 6:00 went to the house (very near to ours) of my paternal aunt Subhadra. Had ordinary talk with her till 7:30 (for psychological relief from the stress of my ongoing preparation for exams). My thought follows, “I don’t like the principles of Hinduism. What I generally observe in Hindu society is that one may have many unethical affairs as long as it is not noticed or criticized by his or her familiar society or relatives. If it is noticed by people, some call one a sinner or wrongdoer for some time. Most of Hindus have many unethical affairs before and after their marriage, mostly men and slightly women. Then, what is the meaning of a marriage, or a marital bond, which is supposed to be based on ethical and societal commitment and dedication to one another (wife and husband) according to the mantras of the Vedas being chanted by priests during pious and auspicious ceremony of marriage? It shows that majority of people are hypocrites in their real lives. Then how can society be happy?”. Went to sleep by 9:30.
24 March (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared economics. My thought follows, “I wonder to believe in the traditional and spiritual notions and practices of some devotees. They highly follow the caste system. They are not kind enough to help the needy and the poor at their level. They are very selfish but they often go to sacred places like Tirupati and Vatican City. They offer something externally to their respective deities and demand much internally from them. Is God that poor and helpless to expect gifts from His devotees? The poor feel inferior and the rich feel superior when offering some presents to their favorite deities. Both are unwanted because God never cares what they are offering to Him but how they are living in their daily lives. These false devotees behave well in the premises of temples and near spiritual people. Later they degrade themselves to their real nature and treatment toward others and thus become brutes on their own. There is no meaning to such devotion toward God when one can’t be generous and pure in one’s real life”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
25 March (Thursday)
Got up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared economics. My thought follows, “Mahatma Gandhi is being regarded as a great person even today all over India and abroad. It is because he dedicated his personal life for the cause of his nation and lived based on the ideals he preached to others to practice. Once a few Indian currency notes only witnessed his photograph on them. Later on many currency notes started carrying his photo. He did not want such fame after his death but the people are unable to find a match to him and so honoring him that way. The ostentation and comfort of money and luxuries are temporary but the strength and worth of ideals are permanent and admirable for all. Everybody should not try to become a great person like Mahatma Gandhi because everything can’t be achieved by one’s sincere efforts also. One should try to live greatly within one’s limits. Extraordinary fame is heavy to carry. One should not struggle to achieve it while alive if one wants to live happily because carrying it along is very hard. If it happens naturally, one can go along with it”. Today Hindus are observing “Sri Rama Navami” festival. Went to sleep by 9:00.
26 March (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared economics. Today also some Hindus are observing “Sri Rama Navami” festival. My thought follows, “Youthful love is like a cool brook in hills. It never harms others. It continues its journey independently without disturbing others in the society. A young couple involved in admiration or love should live in their own world of imaginations and dreams because the world of fantasies is always more beautiful and sweeter than the real world. Love can thrive only when the two partners are strong and active enough to play, sing, dance, run and cry together. Lovers should plan or know how to spend every minute in their lives happily. Life is a journey of increasing responsibilities. Love is a deathless jasmine of everlasting fragrance. One can’t enjoy one’s life when one fails to understand and celebrate the beauty and sweetness of love in a prudent and timely manner. Life would be vivacious when associated with love and dull when detached from that boon of God”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
27 March (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared economics. My thought follows, “All creatures desire to enjoy absolute liberty. Their beauty too thrives in liberal life only. Freedom is given to all creatures. Only humans get it back by struggle when it is lost. Man started blocking the freedom of other living beings for his joy and selfishness. Animals and birds in zoos and sanctuaries are thus suffering without liberty and joy”. Went to sleep by 8:00.
28 March (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I am supposed to prepare economics throughout the day staying at home. I could not adhere to my schedule. Afternoon went to Adduroad and saw the Telugu film “Choodaalani Undhi” of Chiranjeevi. Went to sleep by 9:00.
29 March (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science subject. My thought follows, “The concept of secularism expounded in our constitution can’t be found being practiced well in our societies. Communal clashes are a common sight in India. Secularism is an ideal. It can be imagined beautifully but can’t be found in reality. This is because many civilized people are mad followers of a religion and are not good toward other religions. Atheists can be better practitioners of secularism. One’s love or amity toward the people of other religions is drama only in many places. Only extraordinary people can be secular in thought and action. Many ideals mentioned in the Indian constitution remained impracticable. Government can change the outer life of a person by its orders but internally man is selfish and narrow-minded. He can’t practice ideals wholeheartedly”. Went to sleep by 8:00.
30 March (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. My thought follows, “The general social system in India is highly connected with various castes and sub-castes. Untouchability prevailed before India’s independence and is continuing even after independence but somewhat passively. No doubt, because of various reformative measures implemented by governments after independence, the backward sections of people advanced a lot in all the fields. Once upper caste Hindus dominated and suppressed the lower classes in society. The result is implementation of reservations to backward people on the basis of their social category. Consequently the people of upper castes are suffering with poverty today. The rich ones need/do not bother about these things of the society around them. The poor fight among themselves on this issue of reservations. Where there is poverty, there is struggle for something always. We can’t establish a world without poverty”. Went to sleep by 9:30.
31 March (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. My thought follows, “We can’t find purity in anything. Somehow everything gets contaminated, especially I observe this in the case of human race because only man preserves and believes in history. People from some upper castes and races proudly say that they belong to a particular high origin and so they should be respected and saluted by others. How foolish this thought is! There is no reliable evidence to prove that one belongs to a particular or a best origin. Generations follow on in the continuous wheel of lives and deaths of creatures on earth. In this endless and long journey of time, only some convincing and imaginary estimates about human race remain. Woman or man is fundamentally an unethical creature. Who knows where contamination occurred? Time kills all proofs. Man depends on lies to establish and prove truths”. Went to sleep by 9:30.
1 April (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. Today is the first day of this month and is observed as April Fools’ Day. I did nothing in this regard but one interesting thing occurred today for me. It is getting newspaper daily from today by paperboy. Newspaper plays an important role in the life of modern man. It is main source to know about the conditions of various fields and regions in our country and other places. Reading newspaper is a good habit. It helps us build a liberal personality. Today onwards we will read Telugu daily Eenadu of Ramoji Rao. It is known for its quality of paper and content for long in our state. I am a devoted reader of it. My father said that he does not pay for it. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 April (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. My thought follows, “A generally believed concept in joint family system is ‘blood relations’. I don’t know how these physical relations influence human life but many say that blood relations are the most effective relations in the world. Though siblings live far away from one another, mutual affection and attachment continue in their hearts. How great the creation of God is! Blood is related to body and human relations are associated with mind. What an interesting bond between these two! God would have pitied human beings. So, He injected such effective affection into human brains on the basis of blood relations”. Went to sleep by 8:30.
3 April (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. This evening, Hari Krishna, the son of N T Rama Rao, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, came to Adduroad and spoke something to attract public in view of forthcoming assembly election. Today I saw an ad of Annamalai University in the newspaper inviting applications for admission into its graduate and postgraduate courses. I wrote a letter to its Ambattur information center seeking clarification about the entrance test. Went to sleep by 8:30.
4 April (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today I prepared Hindi in view of ensuing annual examinations. Evening went to Adduroad on bicycle and bought vegetables in the weekly market. Went to sleep by 9:00.
5 April (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:50. Went to our degree college. There were very few lecturers. I went there to take my Hindi notes from our Hindi lecturer Hanumantha Rao. He was also absent. I was disappointed at it. Went to cinema Sita Chitra Mandir and saw the English film “Illegal in Blue” in the morning show. It is an ordinary film with a little bit of sex, the quality of an English film expected by most general audience in India. Why do I go to such films? I should frankly answer it. I can see liberal (with very few restrictions on one’s personal and societal choices and preferences compared to the third world countries like India wherein people are mostly constrained by principles of family system and traditional practices killing personal voice and choice in majority of the cases) and happy lives of Europeans in these films. They lead rich lives and their standards of living attract others. They are free birds (can fly to anywhere and live as they like). Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 April (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached Elamanchili by 10:00 by Tirumala Express. Today too I went there to take my Hindi notes from our Hindi lecturer Hanumantha Rao. Even today he was absent. I was disappointed at it. Today I collected my hall ticket of examinations from the office of our degree college. Helped my friend Dara Konda for some time in writing for getting the AUCET’99 (Andhra University Common Entrance Test related to academic year 1999) application from the university. Came back to station by 2:00. Waited for train. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:30. Evening it was cloudy and cool. It rained a little at night. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 April (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached Elamanchili by 10:00 by Tirumala Express. Went to our degree college to take my Hindi notes from our Hindi lecturer but he did not come even today. I was disappointed. It was hot today. My work in Elamanchili was not completed. Came back to station and took Bokaro-Alleppey Express. Reached home by 1:00. Had my lunch and prepared Hindi notes till 5:30. Evening my uncle Rama Raju came from Raja Venkata Nagaram. Both of us went to Adduroad and telephoned our folks in Gollalagunta. My uncle Varma said my grandparents are well. Today I did something praiseworthy for the eradication of injustice and corruption from the public life. Went to sleep by 9:00.
8 April (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared Hindi. The time of my second year B.A. life elapsed fast. Lecturers did not take their classes well. Students were not interested in their classes. Nowadays doing a regular (daily going to college to attend classes) degree course means a time pass game. There is no enough substance in the brains of lecturers to teach well. The brains of students are filled with useless stuff. So, they can’t receive and store useful knowledge even if an intelligent and dedicated lecturer teaches them well. Who knows about the future of India! The deterioration of educational standards started long ago. Now it is at its high speed. Unethical and undisciplined atmosphere of educated fools prevailed throughout India. Now education does not symbolize the dignity of a person but his or her common quality to sensibly and a bit wisely live in the present chaotic and sophisticated society. I pity and wonder at the present education system in India. Went to sleep by 9:00.
9 April (Friday)
Got up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared Hindi. My thought follows, “The selfishness of man can be seen in his treatment toward his pets at home. He rears goats and buffaloes for milk and other benefits from them. He attends hens, cocks, ducks and peacocks for their eggs, meat and beauty. When a buffalo stops giving milk, he does not feed it well. He sells it soon to buy another one which gives milk. If a dog does not bark loudly at others at night as the main guard of his house, he dislikes its service delivery. Eighty percent of humanity has been living exploiting the services of other living beings. Most of them don’t think about the helplessness of the parasites living depending on them. They always think about how useful they can be to them. Oh man! How selfish you are!” Went to bed by 9:00.
10 April (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared “Science and Civilization”. For the first year degree students, there is “Indian Heritage and Culture”. The objective of the government in adding these two special subjects at degree level is to provide some knowledge of history to the students of science and commerce and an awareness of scientific and technological advancement of the nation to the students of arts and commerce courses. So, these two subjects are very useful for students but it is difficult to remember them. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 April (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent most of my time at home. Today I prepared “Science and Civilization”. Evening went to Adduroad on bicycle and bought vegetables in the weekly market there. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 April (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared “Science and Civilization”. My thought follows, “The quality of common mutual attraction between a male and a female has its own peculiarity in a society or a work environment. A single female teacher among many male teachers draws special attention and regard from them. The exchange of looks between girls and boys in coeducation classrooms is a daily event. A high sense of courtesy and affection flows between men and women even in ordinary life rather than among men. Airhostesses receive special recognition and appreciation from male travellers in their air services. A crazy lover simply dies for his beloved. It is all natural and visible in this world. It makes the world beautiful and enjoyable for all”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 April (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared “Science and Civilization”. My thought follows, “Leadership is a highly essential quality for constructive and progressive growth of any field of human development. Mahatma Gandhi had been a patient and ideal leader in leading masses toward the achievement of freedom to India. Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq earned ill reputation in Indian history for his regressive and thoughtless measures during his rule. Alexander, Hitler, Mussolini, Lenin and Subhash Chandra Bose exhibited immense power of leadership in their respective fields of human interaction and orientation. After independence to India, many desired leadership in some field of human involvement. Still the same trend is going on in our nation. A true leader should be voluntarily chosen by people than he or she contesting elections begging people to choose them as their leaders for some time. The greatness of their personality plays an important role in this ideal situation of leader selection. A society or a nation can develop fast when there are many leaders chosen by ordinary people this way”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
14 April (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared “Science and Civilization”. My thought follows, “Terrorism is prevalent in many countries. Financial insecurity of some people and the exploitation of the poor by the rich are the main causes for the origin and spread of antisocial elements in any nation. When a government fails to provide equal justice to all its citizens, terrorism comes into action. Social, religious and political factors also contribute to the growth of terrorism in many regions of the world. Terrorism is followed by a few and so it can achieve negligible results only from its target groups. Innocent people get victimized in this constant clash between the government and the terrorists. We should not blame terrorists. Everything has its own cause for its origin and development in any field”. Went to sleep by 9:30.
15 April (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared “Science and Civilization”. My thought follows, “The question of existence of God has been a controversial issue for long. Highly improved spiritualists say that there is God. God is a physical and divine symbol of the universal soul. As soon as an invisible force leaves a living body, it remains dead, an unwanted burden on earth. Anyhow belief in the sacredness and strength of a divine power is desirable for peaceful coexistence of humans. Such belief in God makes one believe that a supernatural power is watching one’s actions on earth daily. It indirectly warns him or her to live righteously and kindly. It is the base for one’s humanitarian tendency in thought and action. Religion is a great force of a society. Frequent religious conflicts among some people of a society or the races of some nations show one how influential a religion can be at times”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
16 April (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared English. This evening, Ganga Raju, my B.A. classmate, came to our house and asked me to explain him some topics in English grammar. I allowed him inside and provided him with a chair to sit. I sat before him. I taught him for one hour. He left for his home. Then a clash developed in our house. My father believes in caste system. He is known for his stupidity and eccentricity in these things. He blamed me for offering him a chair in our house treating him as an equal (socially respectable out of friendship or whatever consideration it is I have toward him) person to us. This boy is the son of a washerman in this village. I argued effectively against my parents about their foolish and narrow-minded observation of caste system. I was infuriated against them. I regretted being born in such family. Went to sleep by 9:00.
17 April (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared English. My thought follows, “In my opinion, Dharma (the Hindu term for law or justice) is that which aims at equality, liberty and universal fraternity among the citizens of the world. A judgment representing Dharma must be accepted and appreciated by each and every great personality in a society. But Dharma lost its meaning and value now. It is being burnt and buried by the mighty of the societies and nations. It can be bought by the rich but can’t be achieved by the poor”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
18 April (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent most of my time at home preparing English for the ensuing annual examinations. Today I am not well. My salutes to Lord Gopal and Mother Saraswati.
19 April (Monday)
Got up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared English. My thought follows, “The Indian marriage system lost its value in the present days of commercialism. Nowadays what does marriage mean? The male is a commodity, the parents of a girl are the buyers of that commodity and the price of that commodity is termed as “dowry” and all this constitutes the present lucrative marriage market in India. Dowry must be paid to the bridegroom because he looks after the bride till his or her death, which costs a lot for him. As an obedient housewife, she is supposed to serve her husband and children till she dies. Her service is paid for in the form of some saris or occasional gold ornaments. If misfortune hits her, she becomes a widow and remains a victim in her society. Her internal forces don’t allow her to live calmly and peacefully, physically or psychologically. She chooses to live with a man of similar destiny. Even if she intends to live alone till her death, the male society defames her in every possible way. A good woman trusts her husband wholeheartedly but a bad man loves his wife out of lust. Oh Indian marriage system! How cruel and worthless have you been?” Went to sleep by 10:30.
20 April (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared English. Today, fans and followers are celebrating the birthday of N Chandra Babu Naidu, the present Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He is an energetic, strategic and dynamic leader of this state. By 10:00 went to Etikoppaka by a city bus. Withdrew 500 rupees from my savings bank account at the State Bank of India for my present expenses. My father, a devoted lover of money, did not give me even a single rupee during the last 50 days. Eventually my financial condition collapsed into severe financial crisis. He gave me 200 rupees a month till last February. Later I demanded him to give me 400 rupees a month. He accepted for it and starts that practice soon. My life became hard due to his stupid and unkind treatment of me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
21 April (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Stayed at home till 1:00 preparing English. By today, my preparation for the Second Year B.A. Annual Examinations, in all the six subjects, came to an end. This morning a friend of mine came to me asking for my help in filling in the AUCET ’99 application form. Both of us sat in two chairs. After he had left, my parents scolded me for offering a chair to a lower caste creature. I raged against them. Not desiring to face such mental disorders due to them during examinations, I started my journey immediately to the house of my uncle Rama Raju at Raja Venkata Nagaram to stay there till my examinations are over. There I prepared English from 2:00 to 6:00. Went to bed by 8:00 but could sleep only by 11:00.
22 April (Thursday)
Woke up by 4:00. From today our second year B.A. public examinations would be started. Took a city bus from R V Nagaram and reached Adduroad by 9:00. Thence took a bus and reached Elamanchili by 10:00. Moved to the temple of Lord Hanuman and scanned my English notes very fast. By 1:00 went to Udipi Hotel and had tiffin for five rupees. Had a cool drink also to bear hot weather. Entered examination hall by 1:45. Did English paper very well from 2:00 to 5:00. Took a bus and returned to Adduroad by 5:40. Took an auto rickshaw and reached the house of my uncle by 6:20. Night prepared Hindi for some time. Thank you my dear Lord Gopal. Went to sleep by 10:00.
23 April (Friday)
Woke up by 4:00. Took a bath soon and started preparing Hindi. Had my breakfast by 9:00. Took a bus and reached Adduroad by 9:30. Thence took a bus and reached Elamanchili by 10:00. Moved to the temple of Lord Hanuman and sat there scanning my Hindi notes very fast. By 1:00 had bananas for three rupees and two glasses of buttermilk. Entered examination hall by 1:45. Did Hindi paper very well and came out by 4:55. Took a bus by 5:15, came to Adduroad by 5:45 and reached the house of my uncle by 6:15. I felt very tired. Night prepared “Science and Civilization”. Went to sleep by 10:00.
24 April (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Prepared “Science and Civilization” till 9:00. Had my breakfast by 9:15 and took a bus for Adduroad. Thence took a bus and reached Elamanchili by 10:30. Sat at the temple of Lord Hanuman and scanned the test papers of “Science and Civilization” fast. Had a cool and sweet juice and went to examination hall. The paper was easy. I did well in it. Reached the house of my uncle by 5:00. Night did not study anything. Went to sleep by 9:00.
25 April (Sunday)
Spent all my time at home. Today I prepared history subject. I pray Lord Gopal and Mother Saraswati to bless me with good marks in the coming examinations. Went to sleep by 8:00.
26 April (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. My thought follows, “Nature is an enticing phenomenon on earth. Everybody knows that death detaches one from this beautiful nature one day. Still, as long as there is life in one, one should have desires, should know the ways of satisfying them and struggle to achieve them. What is the meaning of human life on this earth? Who was he or she before his or her birth in this world? What will he or she become after his or her death? Why all these frauds and crimes for one’s selfish, crazy and luxurious life? Answers to these questions do not satisfy us. How simple and helpless is human life from this perspective? For such trivial issue (unreliable and avoidable life), why does man worry that badly? Time runs continuously to bless one with eternal peace one day. Let one live one’s life simply and peacefully knowing this simple truth of human life on earth”. Went to sleep by 8:00.
27 April (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. Today, K R Narayanan, the present President of India, dissolved the 12th Lok Sabha. The Prime Minister of the dissolved legislature is Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He led the coalition government for 13 months. Eighteen regional political parties supported his leadership. Jaya Lalita of AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) withdrew her support (her MPs from the state of Tamil Nadu) to the central government based on some trivial issues. Vajpayee is an honest person in the present political scenario. He is an experienced politician. His words (delivered with his idiosyncratic style of pauses phrase after phrase) are meaningful and thoughtful. I voted in favor of his political party in the last Lok Sabha general election. I like his administration. Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 April (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared political science. Today, the marriage of Padmaja, my sister-in-law from Molleru Mallavaram, takes place there in the house of her maternal grandparents. As I have my examinations, I can’t attend her marriage. She is a good girl. She grew up in orthodox family. In my opinion, it is not right time for her to marry. She must be 16 now. A girl should not marry before 18. Only by that age a girl can be fit enough physically and psychologically to lead her conjugal and familial life with her husband and in-laws somewhat considerably. But the parents and relatives of a girl think differently in Hindu society. They like to get their daughter married soon to a good fellow. The victims are voiceless girls. I wish her happy married life. Went to sleep by 8:00.
29 April (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Took an auto rickshaw to Adduroad by 8:00. Took an express bus for Elamanchili and reached there by 10:00. Sat at the temple of Lord Hanuman and scanned political science notes fast. Had a cool drink by 1:20 and moved to our college. Did the political science paper well from 2:00 to 5:00. Came back to Adduroad by 6:30 by an express bus. Reached the house of my uncle by 7:00. From 7:30 to 12:00 scanned my history notes. Thank you dear Lord Gopal for directing me well in the examination. Thank you dear Mother Saraswati for blessing me with enough memory to enable me to take the paper well. Thank you dear Lord Ganesh for directing me well without creating obstacles on my path of education. Went to sleep by 12:30.
30 April (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and took an auto rickshaw to Adduroad by 8:00. Thence took an express bus and reached Elamanchili by 9:00. Moved to the temple of Lord Hanuman and scanned my history notes fast. By 1:00 had a glass of Lassi (an Indian cool drink prepared by mixing sugar and curd thoroughly) and went to our college. Sat in the examination hall by 1:45. Did the history paper well from 2:00 to 5:00. Came back to Adduroad by 6:30 by an express bus. Reached the house of my uncle by 7:00. Took a bath and had my supper. Listened to Telugu cine songs on radio for some time and refreshed myself from the stress of examinations. Thank you dear God for directing me well in the examination. My salutes to Mother Saraswati for Her blessings. I am Her child. I have no life without Her blessings. Went to sleep by 8:30.
1 May (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared economics. I am much tired of this dreary preparation for exams continuously. I pray Mother Saraswati to bless me with ample mental ability to face the ensuing paper also well. I came here to find silence for my studies during examinations. I spent all my days very happily here. My aunt Raja Kumari and my uncle Rama Raju helped me in this regard. I could prepare well for all my examinations during these testing times. I specially thank Lord Gopal for directing me well. I thank the time that loved me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 May (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I prepared economics. My salutes to Lord Gopal, Mother Saraswati and Lord Ganesh. Went to sleep by 9:00.
3 May (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Scanned my economics notes till 8:00. Had my breakfast and took a bus for Adduroad. Thence took a Vijaya Nagaram bound express bus and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Prepared economics from 10:00 to 1:00 sitting at the temple of Lord Hanuman. By 1:15 had tiffin at Hotel Ganga and a glass of Lassi at a stall. Sat in the examination hall by 1:45. Did my economics paper well from 2:00 to 5:00. With the completion of this paper, my second year B.A. exams came to an end. Our summer vacation is for two months. Came back to the house of my uncle by 6:30. Put my luggage in my bag and returned home by 7:30. Went to sleep by 10:00.
4 May (Tuesday)
Got up by 5:00. Had my breakfast and left for our mango garden at hills on bicycle. Reached there by 8:30. My brother Sambha has been staying there in a hut in our mango garden for the last one month supervising the crop of this season. Kurandasu Appa Rao is also staying with him as an associate. He is an honest man. We know him for years. He likes working with us. Today I stayed there. Spent most of my time listening to radio. Melodious Telugu cine songs sung by S P Bala Subrahmanyam highly attract my heart of love for art. Here the ambience is very calm and refreshing. At night one can enjoy the spell of tranquil climate coupled with sweet sounds of some creatures. One gets sound sleep in this setting of nature. Went to sleep by 9:00.
5 May (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00 in our mango grove. Returned home by 9:00. Today my mother went to attend the marriage of one of our relatives at a place very near to us. Today I spent at home. Ate a few sweet mango fruit. It is so hot that sweat flows on one’s body when one goes out for a touch of air. By 4:30 went to Adduroad and bought a pack of Pepsodent toothpaste and blades. On the way went to a doctor and consulted him about little white marks below my left shoulder. He prescribed a cream (carrying the customary caution “For External Use Only”) named “Blossom” worth 30 rupees. Actually I must consult a dermatologist but I have no money. I am in a financial crisis. I pity myself. May Lord Gopal bless me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 May (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to our mango grove by 9:00. All the day stayed there listening to radio and helping my folks in the garden work. My father was very poor in his childhood. He worked as a laborer for some time. Later he got a small job in a nearby sugar factory, with the mercy of Kshatriya millionaires of village Tangedu, who then used to be influential people in the affairs of this factory because it was their forefathers that founded this cooperative sugar factory. His childhood, haunted by poverty all around, had its inevitable impact on his latter life. He thus began to see money as an invaluable asset of human life, which needs to be grown up very carefully (greedily) for secure future. His greed for money affected my childhood. I began to see my life as a hell in this financially testing environment. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 May (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to our mango grove by 9:00. All the day I spent there. At present I am in financial crisis. One of the main reasons for my present situation is my father. All my monthly expenses including clothes, toothpaste, pens, refills, books, blades, college term fees, railway season ticket charges, lunch and any other need must be managed by me only with 300 rupees. He did not give me money during the last two months. For expenses during my recent public exams, my lord Venkatapathi Raju, a scavenger and miserly bloke, gave me 100 rupees. He is the devil for me. He is a merciless scoundrel and main enemy to me. He is a villain posted by God to arrest the healthy growth of my childhood. With all this agony of my internal suffering, went to sleep by 9:00.
8 May (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent in the mango grove till 1:00. Returned home by 2:00. My father is an uneducated and stupid creature. He observes caste system. He is ready to die for the cause of superstitions. He loves nothing but money. He does not care for the needs of others, dependent upon him, which are linked up with the money he earns. My life, after my return from the residential school at Bhoopatipalem, thus became a hell. His greedy nature stopped the growth of my body due to lack of money for lunch during my college working days. Went to sleep by 9:00.
9 May (Sunday)
Woke up by 6:00. Spent all my time in our mango grove. Today it was cool. Evening listened to radio for some time. My salutes to Lord Gopal and Mother Saraswati. Went to sleep by 9:00.
10 May (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00 in our mango grove. All the day I stayed over there. Spent most of my time listening to radio. Today, the 142nd Memorial Day of the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny against the British is being celebrated at Meerut. On 10 May, 1857, Mangal Pandey, a sepoy (the title given to the Indian soldiers working in the British Army in India) refused to obey the orders of his British military officer and became the first one to start the rebellion of sepoys against the mighty British. Martyrs should be honored and saluted for their sacrifices, which brought independence to India. I salute all those heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their motherland. Today my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani and my nephews Sujan and Suhas came from Molleru Mallavaram. Today it was cloudy and cool. It is a refreshing change of air in this hot season. Evening returned home from our garden. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 May (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to Adduroad by 9:00 and took a bus for Elamanchili. Went to Aparna Xerox Center and bought 200 white papers for 60 rupees. Went to Bhoolokamamba Printing Center and asked them to make them into a big book. This book is meant for the collection of important Hindi words from a dictionary. Thereafter went to cinema Sita Chitra Mandir and saw the Telugu film “Yama Jaathakudu” in the morning show. Had tiffin at Ambika Tea Stall. Had a glass of Lassi at a stall. Took a bus and returned home by 3:00. Started to our mango grove by 3:45 on bicycle. Evening prepared supper for us. Night listened to radio for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 May (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:30 in our mango grove. All the day stayed at the thatched hut in our mango garden near peepal tree and spent most of my time listening to radio. Physically I am thin and weak now. As a student one must rest and eat healthy food during holidays. I am not getting these two. My parents are illiterate and ignorant of leading meaningful life. I am also affected by their attitudes and lifestyles. I am disappointed at my weak body. At home I have to take care of our buffaloes now and then. They provide us with milk and dung useful for man and agriculture. They are necessary for a common man. I agree with it but when one wants to achieve something in another field, one can’t attend these things painlessly. I have no good atmosphere at home for my education. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 May (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00 in our mango grove. My brother Sambha came here from home. I left for home by 6:30. I took some mangoes to home. Went to NRPM railway station by 8:30. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:50. Went to Bhoolokamamba printing and binding shop and asked for my book of white papers. He readily gave it to me. I paid him 20 rupees as binding charge. Came back to home by 11:40 by Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada passenger train. Afternoon rested for some time. Started to our mango grove by 3:30. By this time it turned cloudy and cool. Night prepared supper for Appa Rao and me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
14 May (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00 in our mango grove. All the day spent in the hut writing Hindi words and their meanings in Telugu in the book of white papers I got made in Elamanchili recently. By 10:00 I killed a centipede when it was coming toward our hut. Actually it was on its way to somewhere. Man is the main killer of other inferior living creatures around him. Am I exception to that material outlook and practice? Not at all! Some centipedes are said to be much poisonous whose bite makes victim get a permanent wound on the bitten part. I felt sorry for heartlessly killing it. It may be a poisonous creature. So, no alternative could be found rather than to kill it. They are vulnerable creatures of nature. Today I ate cashew and mango fruit. Went to sleep by 9:00.
15 May (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00 in our mango garden. From 7:00 to 12:00 did the copying work of Hindi words from dictionary into my long notebook. Returned home by 1:00. Attended the Telugu film “Tholi Prema” in cinema Venkatapathi Raju Mahal at Adduroad by 2:30. It is one of the good films that attracted my heart very much. True love unknowingly develops in one’s heart for the other. It lies in one’s heart for long and then makes one lovesick for his beloved. There is no medicine to cure that pain of heart. Only the sweet words or a warm hug by the beloved of the creature can cure his disease of admiration and attachment and the related suffering. Pawan Kalyan and Keerthi Reddy played their roles well. Went to sleep by 9:00.
16 May (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home. Morning and evening did the work of collection of meanings of some important words of Hindi into my notebook. My salutes to Lord Gopal. Went to sleep by 9:00.
17 May (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and collected Hindi words and their meanings into my long notebook. Today I ate sweet mango fruit. Today it was refreshing. My thought follows, “Dealing with small children is a difficult job. They can’t express what they want or what they don’t want. It is the responsibility of the elders to take care of them always. The wonderful thing to be noticed in children is that they are beautiful and lovable when they are small in look and outlook. The offspring of all living and visible creatures look cute and attractive while little in size. Thank you God for your beautiful creation! You are kind enough to maintain the principle of equality of beauty in respect of all creatures and classes on earth. But selfish and biased man does not appreciate the beauty of the little ones of other creatures on earth as he does with the ones of his race”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
18 May (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared Hindi words (meant for improving my knowledge of Hindi language in a constructive way). Morning I have been to our mango grove. My thought follows, “I find tranquil and lovely environment at the foot of hills. It is the medicine of nature which can easily cure the wounded and tired psyche of the modern mechanized man. Gentle breezes that blow down off a peak smoothly touch the tired body of a man or woman. The melodic twitters of little birds in the trees and bushes and the tantalizing calls of the animals in the hills have their own styles of musical composition and attraction for a romantic and nature lover to enjoy. The green environment of God is very enchanting. He created such beautiful world in the green and rain forests. The innocent creatures in hills have their strong associations and casual quarrels among themselves. They have their own ways of recreation. No man can enjoy their limitless liberty”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
19 May (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared Hindi words. Morning I have been to our mango grove at hills. Heavy winds blew at night. My thought follows, “The activities of nature look orderly and follow some rules. If all the trees stop yielding their nuts and fruit in their respective seasons, what about humans that eke out their livelihood depending on them. Some universal law should be guiding the actions of this wonderful nature. If nature plays with the cunning and pretentious man, the comedy or tragedy of man can be visualized greatly in that dilemma. Showers in rainy season attract and influence young lovers. Who discourage passionate creatures from getting crazy practicing the great theories developed in their romantic hearts in the free domain of vast stretches of beautiful nature? Lovers should love and explore nature to make their lives blissful and extraordinary”. Went to sleep by 10:00.
20 May (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared Hindi words. Evening went to our mango grove. My thought follows, “Trust is lost now. Nobody trusts anybody completely. Everybody hides something from being known to others. Society is a storehouse of hypocrites. An employee salutes his superior, not with reverence for him, but for formality. A student salutes his teacher for formality. A teacher teaches to his students because he has to teach something. There is hardly dedication in one towards one’s responsibility. A husband can’t believe in his spouse. A wife has no confidence in her husband. Modern human life thus became a complex of pretensions and tensions”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
21 May (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning enjoyed myself in our mango grove. Had cool juice of Palmyra nuts. Had a few mango fruit also. Returned home by 10:00 on bicycle. Today also I did copying work of Hindi words into my long notebook. By 1:00 Saint Appanna Swamy (my spiritual guide) came from Gollalagunta. He became blind when he was 20 or so. His blindness was said to be the result of a cobra’s curse against him whose eyesight failed due to the fire he set on an anthill in which it died helplessly due to the heat above. His physical disability turned him into a spiritual man (a helpless dependent on the mercy of God). He recited (stored in his memory and can release just like that when wanted) the mantras and slokaas of various Hindu religious books like the Bhagavad Gita, the Hanuman Chaalisa, the Vishnu Sahasra Naamaavali and so on. He acquired commendable spiritual knowledge after becoming blind. Went to sleep by 9:00.
22 May (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I spent most of my time at home with Saint Appanna Swamy. We went to the house of my paternal aunt Subhadra by 9:00. We spent there till 12:00. There I read out a small book titled Sri Sharada Devi (the wife of the great Indian saint Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the spiritual guide of Swamy Vivekananda) Amrutha Vaakkulu (the Telugu version of a Bengali work), which describes the spiritual transformation of a sinner. By 2:00 went to Adduroad to bring lineman to repair the electrical wires connected to our house for restoration of electricity. Went to sleep by 9:00.
23 May (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning went to our mango grove at hills and soon returned home. Afternoon took Saint Appanna Swamy to our nearby village Lakkavaram on bicycle. Night slept in our mango grove by hills.
24 May (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00 in our mango garden. Prepared rice and soup for my brother Sambha and his garden associate Appa Rao. Returned home by 9:00. Saint Appanna Swamy and I started to village Rambilli by 1:30 from our house. Today I received an additional gift hamper from the Thums Up section at Eenadu television channel in Hyderabad (as compensation after my complaint letter to them. I wrote them that they sent me inferior goods, which do not cost 1000 rupees (as they promised in the contest), which is a kind of public cheating and so legally punishable. They replied me to accept a wristwatch as compensation) which carried a Timex wristwatch. It has gold chain. Saint Appanna Swamy and I started to Elamanchili from Adduroad by an express bus by 2:00. We reached Elamanchili by 3:00. There we waited for the bus to Rambilli. It started by 3:30. We reached Rambilli by 4:30. We went to the house of Kanna Babu. Night they offered supper to us. We slept by 9:00 at the temple of Lord Krishna in the nearby cashew garden of Kanna Babu.
25 May (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I took Saint Appanna Swamy to various houses in Rambilli whom he knows well but some of them behaved carelessly toward us. Even today we had our breakfast, lunch and supper at the house of Kanna Babu. Today it was cool and cloudy. Many Kshatriyas in this village are rich. A very few are poor. They are struggling for their existence. Appanna Swamy believes that the people of this village are believers in God and that they have spiritual interest to listen to him. He thought that the rich people in this village would help him financially. He is in financial crisis now. Only God has to help him. Night we went to Gita Mandir in the cashew grove of Kanna Babu and slept there in the temple by 8:30.
26 May (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today we had our breakfast at the house of Kanna Babu. Thereafter we moved to the house of Ammaaji (our hostess for today). Today, in the house of Ammaaji, a small spiritual meeting was held under the leadership of Saint Appanna Swamy. Eight local Kshatriya women, who have considerable belief in and knowledge of mainstream Hinduism, gathered around him. He explained the essence of some spiritual works in which, Who Am I of Ramana Maharshi, the 12th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, the Sadhguru Paadhukaasthavam of Sri Adi Sankaracharya and Suvarna Gulikalu of his spiritual guide Sri Naaraayanaananda of Proddatur in Cuddapah district, were included. Later we spent discussing some other spiritual matters. Today we had our lunch and supper at the house of Ammaaji. We slept by 8:30 at Gita Mandir in the cashew grove.
27 May (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent within the village of Rambilli along with Saint Appanna Swamy. Today we spent in spiritual discourses with some Kshatriya women. Morning we met Saint Rama Brahmam (the one who meditated nakedly for some eight years in the hills near village Repaka in Nakkapalli Mandal), one of the great spiritualists in this region. He spends most of his time in silence and meditation. Today we had our breakfast, lunch and supper at the house of Radha (our hostess for today), who belongs to village Mallisala (near Jaggampeta) in East Godavari district. Today I took Appanna Swamy to various houses in this village. They gifted some money to him. They offered mango fruit also to us. He felt happy at their affection. Today it was cool, cloudy and enjoyable. Went to sleep by 10:00 at Gita Mandir in the cashew grove.
28 may (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day we spent within the village of Rambilli. We went to some houses. Some of them gifted him money. Today also we had our breakfast, lunch and supper at the house of Radha. Today we conducted a small spiritual meeting at her house. Evening we met Saint Rama Brahmam. Appanna Swamy came here to get money from his familiar Kshatriyas in this village. Anyhow he got some money. He was disappointed to some extent for being unable to collect the desired amount of money he had in his mind before coming to this village. Rambilli is a big village with coconut, mango and cashew groves. Many houses in this village are surrounded by green trees. The strength and dominance of Kshatriyas is a considerable characteristic of this village. Many of them are engaged in daily work and businesses related to coconut and cashew. Water and road facilities are good here. Went to sleep by 10:00 at Gita Mandir in the cashew grove.
29 May (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Both of us had our breakfast and waited for the bus. Reached Elamanchili by 9:00 by a bus from Rambilli. Thence we took a bus and reached Peda Gummuluru by 10:00. By 11:30 I went to NRPM railway station on bicycle. Reached Visakhapatnam by 4:00. Took a city bus from there and went to bus complex. Thence took another city bus and reached Murali Nagar. Went to “Bharat Defense Academy”. Collected details of work (doing which I can earn some money for me). Came back soon to railway station. Went to sleep by 9:00.
30 May (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home. Did the work of collection of Hindi words for much time. Today it was hot. My salutes to Lord Krishna. Went to sleep by 9:00.
31 May (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I did a little written work. Today my sister-in-law Padmaja, her mother Kumari and my brother-in-law Gopi (our guests) came from Visakhapatnam. Appanna Swamy was moved to the house of my paternal aunt Subhadra for this reason. Appanna Swamy belongs to Gollalagunta. His blindness is permanent. His sister is looking him after. They are all poor. He often worries about their helpless condition. He is an expert in spiritual matters. I have been associated with him since my age of eight. I have respect, affection and reverence for him. He spends in our village for some days. Today is the last day of this month. This month it has been enjoyable (not much hot representing the real nature of this season). I spent happily in this month. My farewell to this fruitful month of the year. Went to sleep by 9:00.
1 June (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent within the village. Did the work of collection of Hindi words for some time. Evening it was cool and cloudy. Today Appanna Swamy stayed at the house of my aunt Subhadra. My thought follows, “The cause for misery in this world is that the rich can’t understand the suffering of the destitute. We find many aristocrats in our society who do not offer even one rupee to a poor creature. Only God is the caretaker of all these millions of poor people. Poverty is an omnipresent phenomenon in India. It originated sometime in the past. The future can’t find its end”. Went to sleep by 9:30.
2 June (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and did the written work of collection of Hindi words into my long notebook. Evening listened to cine songs on radio for some time. My thought follows, “Of late, the percentage of people with spiritual interest, throughout the world, came down. Man became slave for lust and luxury. Richness takes a man away from God. Comfort makes man very selfish. A millionaire always thinks of earning more and more money to keep his dignity and royalty up. The poor look like worthless creatures on earth to him. A rich man enjoys many comforts but can’t tolerate even a little hardship. He worries a lot even at small troubles of his life but he can’t be kind to those who are toiling and suffering on a daily basis. He would neither have time nor interest for attending those critical issues of the society around him”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
3 June (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and collected Hindi words and their meanings into my notebook. Today I brought Appanna Swamy back to our home from the house of my paternal aunt Subhadra. Today my cousin Anantha Lakshmi came from Raja Venkata Nagaram along with her little daughter Krishna Kumari. The latter is a mischievous creature. Once she starts crying for a trivial cause, nobody can stop her from that pursuit until she decides on her own to withdraw from that dedicated duty of seeking attention and pity from others. Appanna Swamy is teaching spiritual things in our house. Evening it rained a bit. Anantha Lakshmi is the daughter of my maternal aunt Satyavathi and uncle Ramakrishnam Raju. She studied up to seventh standard only. She was married to my maternal uncle Varma. Both of them make a good couple. Both are gentle and cool. They live in Gollalagunta where I studied from my third standard to seventh standard. Night Appanna Swamy and I slept in the abode of my paternal grandparents (a small rented portion) in Ramayyapatnam.
4 June (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. I wanted to go to Elamanchili but on the advice of my friend, I went ahead to Anakapalle. There my friend and I went to three watch showrooms and enquired them about the present market retail price of my Timex gold colored wristwatch. They said it costs 815 rupees. I got this wristwatch recently as compensation from the Coca Cola section at Eenadu television channel in Hyderabad. I decided to sell it. I am in such miserable financial condition now. Returned home by 1:30 by Bokaro-Alleppey Express. Evening and night did the work of collection of Hindi words into my long notebook. Went to bed by 9:00.
5 June (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. From 5:30 to 9:00 did the copying work of Hindi words. Appanna Swamy and I started to Raja Venkata Nagaram on bicycle by 9:30. The rear inner tube failed when we were in a little distance to Adduroad. Took Appanna Swamy to the destination by bus. Came back soon and got our bicycle repaired in Adduroad. Afternoon did the copying work of Hindi words from dictionary. Night it turned cool. Went to bed by 9:30.
6 June (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home. Morning and evening did the work of copying Hindi words. Today my uncle Satya Narayana Raju and aunt Lakshmi came from Molleru Mallavaram. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 June (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and did the work of copying Hindi words from dictionary into my long notebook. My thought follows, “The birth of any creature on earth imposes some inevitable responsibilities on it. Since the birth has already taken place, it is the responsibility of the creature to live until its death. Struggle for existence is the essential quality of all the creatures. Man is a wise creature on earth compared to other creatures and so he makes his life comfortable exploiting them in his best possible ways. Unfortunately the modern man became very selfish. Consequently the results of his actions also became very dangerous and tragic. Modern man lost peace of mind. Life without harmony is hell”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
8 June (Tuesday)
Woke up by 4:00. From 5:00 to 10:00 did the copying work of Hindi words. By 10:55 my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani, my cousin Anantha Lakshmi, my nephew Sujan and I started to Etikoppaka by bus. There, in a stall of wooden toys (this village is famous for these handicrafts made of special wood) they bought some toys for 200 rupees. We returned home by 12:30 in an auto rickshaw. Recently it turned hot. Today I found pleasant atmosphere in our house with the presence of our relatives. My sister-in-law felt very happy knowing about the arrival of her husband from Ambala Cantonment. Went to sleep by 9:30.
9 June (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. My brother Srinivas came by 8:30 from Ambala Cantonment. He brought many items, which he recently bought in Ambala. His luggage included a big Thomson color television, a fridge, a washing machine, a video cassette player, a used air cooler (gifted by his superior officer as a token of friendship), a tape recorder and china (porcelain) crockery. Lakshmi, the mother-in-law of my brother, engaged herself in arranging these items in our house. Today my sister-in-law and her mother were busy in these works. My father, my brother Sambha and my mother commented that my brother Srinivas had spent a lot of money for buying all this unwanted stuff. They think our present financial status is not fit enough to buy such costly items for domestic use. Today I did copying work of Hindi words for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
10 June (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and involved myself in copying Hindi words from dictionary. Today our guests left for their places. They started here by 9:00. Today it was cool and cloudy. Evening the local cable operator provided cable connection (meant for television) to our house. Now I am in a severe financial crisis. My father gives me 200 rupees only a month for all my expenses. In this predicament, there is none to save me except God. I am a B.A. student now. My father does not care for me. I am disturbed to know that I was born in such family who cannot understand the value of education. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 June (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning went to our mango grove and brought mango fruit by 11:00. Morning my brother Srinivas and sister-in-law Sandhya Rani went to Molleru Mallavaram. I spent much of my time watching television. Our family is a blend of superstitions and narrow-mindedness. My father is a devoted lover of money and agricultural land. He does not know anything about making life comfortable and enjoyable. He does not want entertainment. He has no fatherly concern toward me. He never thinks or talks about my education or other things. He thinks that I would ask him for money if he talks about education with me. I pity myself to be his son. Went to bed by 9:00.
12 June (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent watching television. Now I am in financial depression. I am the son of a father who has property worth about 20 lakh rupees. Unfortunately he gives me 200 rupees only a month for all my expenses. I have to lead my life with 200 rupees where I actually need 1000 rupees. Nowadays it is difficult to go out without enough money on us. Now I am suffering like this. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 June (Sunday)
Woke up by 4:00. By today the preparation of my Hindi notes (meant for enriching my vocabulary) came to an end. By 9:30 (at night) took a passenger train from Narsipatnam Road railway station to Vijayawada.
14 June (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00 in Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada passenger train. Detrained at Vijayawada Junction and went toward Suryaraopet (a locality in Vijayawada city) on foot. Reached the head office of Telugu weekly Swati by 10:00. Met an employee in that office and talked with him about the point of acceptance of my writing “Pranaya Saagara Teeraalu” to be published in their weekly. He took my typed work and told that they would inform me later after checking its worth to be published in their weekly. Hired an auto rickshaw and moved to cinema “Radha”. Saw the English film “Into the Fire”. Later went to Kiran Video Shop to buy a videocassette for recording purpose at home. I did not find the required videocassette at that shop and was also told that I cannot get it anywhere in this city. Came back to railway station by 4:00. I got a Muslim friend in station. He took a copy of my aforementioned work to read at home. Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam passenger train started by 9:00.
15 June (Tuesday)
Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam passenger reached Narsipatnam Road railway station by 6:00. Detrained and walked to the nearby flyover. Took an auto rickshaw and moved to Peda Gummuluru. Freshened up myself and slept for more than two hours. I can remain sleepless for a night but it takes two days for me to recover from that temporary weakness caused by such sleeplessness. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Gaandharvam” on Eenadu television channel. Today it was cool and cloudy. Today I spent most of my time watching Eenadu television channel. Went to bed by 9:30.
16 June (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today diarrhoea affected me. Went to Adduroad by 8:30 and bought some tablets at a medical store for its remedy. I became weak due to this effect. Yet I did not stop eating food or mango fruit. Today I spent most of my time at home watching Eenadu television channel. My brother Srinivas, my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani and my nephews Sujan and Suhas came by 12:00 from Molleru Mallavaram. By 4:00 I went to China Gummuluru on bicycle to meet my friend there. He was not at home. Returned home getting slightly wet in shower. Today it was cool and cloudy. Recently I ate many mango fruit. I think it caused diarrhoea. Went to bed by 8:30.
17 June (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent most of my time watching television. Today it was cool and rainy. I have been eating many mango fruit for the last few days of the season. Every year we eat sweet and ripe mango fruit in summer because my father bought about 16 acres of mango garden with his hard-earned money in the sugar factory (about 20 years of service to date). This year there is heavy mango production in parts of India. So, their prices drastically decreased affecting farmers. The mango merchants (having invested a lot of money for the crop of this season and getting very little of it due to low prices of mangoes) suffered a lot. Even a very common man can buy sweet mango fruit at these highly affordable prices. Though mango production is very high this year, the government failed to export the surplus in an effective way to save farmers from this crisis. Went to bed by 9:00.
18 June (Friday)
Got up by 5:00. Today my mother and my brother Sambha left for the house of my maternal grandparents in Gollalagunta. They meet our other relatives also in that area. Kurandasu Appa Rao, the associate that worked in our mango garden and I left for the Mandal Revenue Office in S Rayavaram by 9:30. He has work to get done at this revenue office. So, I went along with him to help him in that respect. But his work was not done there due to his failure of submission of the required documents. We returned home by 12:00. Evening went to China Gummuluru to attend a small work there. Today one of my Intermediate (pre-university course of studies) classmates came to me to invite me to his marriage with his wedding card. Today it (it stands for weather) was refreshing and exciting. Went to bed by 9:00.
19 June (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning watched television for some time. Went to S Rayavaram by 10:00 along with Appa Rao, our familiar person. He has to obtain a certificate from the revenue office for admitting his son into a social welfare government school. We returned home by 1:00. Afternoon spent at home watching television. Evening went to Ramayyapatnam on a motorcycle along with a merchant to help him meet my uncle Narayana Murthy (he has a business dealing with my uncle). Night watched television. Went to bed by 9:30.
20 June (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home watching television. Today it was cloudy and cool. Today my brother Srinivas brought his scooter (which he booked at Ambala Cantonment) from Tuni railway station. Went to sleep by 9:00.
21 June (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning spent watching television. Afternoon went to the house of my uncle Rama Raju at Raja Venkata Nagaram on scooter along with my brother Srinivas and my nephew Sujan. We spent there for more than two hours. My aunt Raja Kumari offered some homemade sweets for us. Appanna Swamy has been staying there for the last ten days. Datla Subba Raju, the owner of this coconut garden, under whom my uncle is working as a Chief Supervisor (at a monthly salary of 1000 rupees) is very rich. He treats my uncle with love and respect. I knew that Appanna Swamy has been eating his food in their house for the last four days. Aunt Parvati (the wife of Subba Raju) is generous. Today it was cool and cloudy. Went to sleep by 9:00.
22 June (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home very casually. Afternoon wrote a letter to the editor of the Telugu weekly Swati. I wrote him to consider my analytical essay on love. I informed him to send it back soon if it is not found suitable for publication in their weekly. Today the maternal grandmother of my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani came from Molleru Mallavaram. I am spending my time with my nephew Suhas. He is a noiseless kid. He always keeps a smiling face. He underwent an operation in his stomach when he was ten days old. Today I watched television whenever leisure was found. Night Appanna Swamy came back to our house from Raja Venkata Nagaram. Went to sleep by 9:00.
23 June (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today there is the marriage of my Intermediate classmate Marisetti Chiranjeevi in village Enugu Tuni near Noothula Guntla Palem. He belongs to Kapu community. I was born into a community, which is known for its superstitions and eccentricities. I don’t believe in these narrow-minded concepts of caste and religion. Humans are children of God. We should be ready to love and live with anybody that loves us honestly as we are. This friend of mine is an honest and generous person. There were days when I shared his lunch in our junior college days. Four of my friends and I left for Enugu Tuni by 9:00 from Adduroad. We bought a wall clock to present him as our gift. We reached his village after a long walk from the main road. His marriage went on well. We felt happy at it. Returned home by 2:00. Evening supervised our buffaloes grazing in front of our house. Went to sleep by 9:00.
24 June (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today is an auspicious day according to Telugu calendar. Today Appanna Swamy conducted the holy program of chant of the slokaas of the Bhagavad Gita at the house of my paternal aunt Subhadra. I too attended this auspicious event by 8:00. He delivered all the slokaas of the Bhagavad Gita and so he chanted them very fast. After this program, I went to Elamanchili by a lorry. Saw the Telugu film “Guptha Saasthram” in cinema Parameswari in the morning show. This film cautions modern youth to be careful regarding their sensual enjoyments with the opposite gender before and after marriage. It advises unethical blokes to be away from the fatal disease of AIDS. Returned home by 2:00. Spent three hours supervising our buffaloes grazing in front of our house. Went to sleep by 9:00.
25 June (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home casually. Recently I joined a private company called “Bharat Defense Academy” in Visakhapatnam. It is a coaching center and junior college meant for youngsters willing to join the defense services of India. My duty is to motivate the tenth qualified students and make them join their college. I can earn 2000 rupees by making a student join their college. I have to go to local Zilla Parishad high schools and motivate students in that direction. So, I should be effective in my motivation skills (an essential quality for a man or woman belonging/desiring to join marketing field). But I did not go to schools. What I know is that one should do a productive (yielding considerable remuneration for the services carried out as an employee of a firm) job to earn money. It is necessary in the present competitive world to help oneself financially. Went to bed by 9:00.
26 June (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent most of the time watching television. Oh my Lord Krishna! I am in severe financial problems now. There is none to save me from this plight. You know well how difficult it is to spend my life with only 200 rupees per month. Nowadays there is no human existence unless one is financially strong enough to look after oneself. You are the only well-wisher for me. Save and direct me always. Went to sleep by 9:00.
27 June (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today all our folks went to “Thalupulamma Lova” near Tuni. They offer the life of a fowl to that Goddess to get Her blessings. I don’t like such things and so remained at home. Watched the Telugu feature film “Seethaakoka Chiluka” on television. It is a masterpiece. Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 June (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. This morning Appanna Swamy and my maternal uncle Krishnam Raju left for Gollalagunta. With this, the 20-day long tour of Saint Appanna Swamy to our locality came to an end. I helped him as I could. He is a devotee of Lord Krishna. He is all for his helpless life. By 10:00 I started to S Rayavaram (to attend a work there at Mandal Revenue Office) to help Kurandasu Appa Rao in getting Caste Certificate for his son who should be admitted into the B C (Backward Classes) School for Boys at Payakaraopeta. We had something there in a small hotel for our lunch. Appa Rao is an honest and loyal person. He is hard-working and generous. We returned home by 2:30. Evening listened to cine songs on radio for some time. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
29 June (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent most of my time painting our home green. My brother Srinivas painted windows. He recently brought a big tin of green paint from Ambala Cantonment (if he has something before him, he can’t help falling prey to the temptation to use it some way. He spends money also like that. I resemble him in many qualities. I too spend money recklessly now and then and sit calmly when out of stock. The same happened today. Both of us applied the excessively available green paint to every considerable place in our house). Thereafter I painted our two old bicycles also green. I thought that our bicycles would appear new once the thoroughly applied paint on them gets dried up. When the bicycles were painted and the color got dried up on them, my father and my brother Samba returned home in the evening. They said the paint made the bicycles too bad to look at. My brother Sambha uses the short one. He said that it became ugly after the painting. He told me to clean it at once and make it look as usual as before. I applied kerosene and cleaned the color of bicycles by 8:30. Went to sleep by 9:00.
30 June (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to Raja Venkata Nagaram by 10:00. Spent there till 2:30. Raja Kumari is my youngest maternal aunt. Rama Raju is her husband. They have two sons named Vasu and Naren. They are currently studying in the nearby government schools. My uncle is working as a Chief Supervisor here to the 30 acres of coconut garden (owned by Datla Subba Raju of Visakhapatnam). This uncle is a cheerful and generous person though uneducated. I like their family. They are in financial troubles. Returned home on bicycle. Evening prepared supper at home. Watched television for some time. Thank you my dear month. Went to sleep by 9:00.
1 July (Thursday)
Woke up by 4:30. Morning prepared food at home. Started to NRPM railway station by 8:30. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Actually our degree college was reopened one week ago after the summer holidays but I delayed to go to college thinking that no classes start that soon after reopening the college. Went to college by 10:30. Knew that the term and other college fees, which totally amount to 300 rupees, must be paid soon. I felt low to know this. Returned home by 12:30 by bus. Today a discussion took place in our house regarding the marriage of my brother Sambha. Today I entered my final year B.A. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 July (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Freshened up myself soon and started to NRPM railway station by 8:30. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 10:30. Went to our college. Today our Economics Lecturer Prabhakara Rao came to our class and discussed the events of the World Cup. Very few students attended this class. They devotedly listened to his review of cricket. After the class I attended the work of paying my first term college fees. Bought a challan from Aparna Xerox Center. Filled in that form and went to the nearby treasury at Mandal Revenue Office near the public library. Got the filled in form stamped by them. Then went to State Bank of India and did rest of the work. Went back to our college. The clerk told me to pay both the fees at a time. Returned home by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.

Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Today Tirumala Express was late due to track repair work at the station. Reached Elamanchili by 11:00. Today the only work I did at our college was to pay the first term college fees. An amount of 180 rupees was paid in the form of bank challan. An amount of 114 rupees was paid in cash. Returned home by 4:30. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
4 July (Sunday)

5 July (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached our college by 10:00. Today I did nothing at our college (regarding my present studies). Met our English lecturer and asked her about the AUCET (Andhra University Common Entrance Test). She advised me to go to Andhra University Press or Gupta Brothers bookstore to get some preparation material. Returned home by 1:30 by Bokaro-Alleppey Express. Rested till 2:00. Ironed my clothes from 3:30 to 4:30. Presently talks are going on between my father and some Kshatriya folks of village Tangedu regarding the marriage of my brother Sambha. Both the parties have some differences in respect of dowry and other formalities related to a traditional marriage. Evening took the children of my uncle Narayana Murthy to their house in the mango garden by hills. Returned home soon. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 July (Tuesday)
Got up by 5:00. Reached NRPM railway station by 7:00 on bicycle. Took Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger and reached Visakhapatnam by 10:00. Today I met my residential school (in Bhoopathipalem) friend Mangaiah in this train. He said that most of our school friends are pursuing good courses of study. Moved out of station and walked to Gupta Brothers bookstores located at Jagadamba Junction and Dwaraka Nagar. Thereafter went to Andhra University also. I could not get the previous AUCET question papers of English Literature or any material for preparation. Felt disappointed and came back to railway station. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:30. I undertook ticketless journeys today in both the directions. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 July (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Went to our college by 9:45. All the classrooms looked empty without students. The attitude of the lecturers was also in the same way. They feel happy if students don’t come to classes. They can happily spend their time in their rooms, have their lunch in the afternoon and calmly go back to their homes finishing their time pass game in the evening. They are not morally responsible for the salaries they are taking from the government. There is none to question their careless attitude toward their duties. Returned home by 1:00. Evening went to Adduroad and saw the Telugu film “Sita Rama Raju” of Nagarjuna and Hari Krishna in cinema Venkatapathi Raju Mahal in the first show. Returned home by 9:30. Went to sleep by 10:00.

The prior would be dealt by Prabhakara Rao and the latter by Nagabhushana Rao) and Political Thought and Public Administration (the two subjects of Political Science, for which there are no lecturers). We don’t have languages in the final year degree course. Today I did not do any important work. Recently I sold my wristwatch (the one I got as compensation from the folks of Coca Cola at Eenadu television channel in Hyderabad) to my father for 600 rupees. My financial state became unbearable due to my father’s way of giving 200 rupees a month to me for my expenses. Returned home by 4:00. Went to bed by 9:00.
10 July (Saturday)
Got up by 5:00. Today it is the second Saturday of the month and so our college observes a holiday. I spent all my time at home watching television. Now it is becoming very difficult for me to face the financial problems. My father never behaved like a father toward me. He is very materialistic. He likes to earn money but not to spend it for him or for others dependent on him. He behaves like an employer toward me providing food, accommodation and a monthly salary of 200 rupees. Went to bed by 9:00.
11 July (Sunday)

Spent my time till 12:00 simply standing there. Afternoon avoided my lunch. I wanted to have some tiffin but I did not find good tiffin in this region. Though some useless stuff (items of tiffin) is available, their prices are not justifiable. The sizes and the weight of the tiffin stuff are small but their prices are high. It is a pitiable situation for common people (who eat these tiffin items helplessly) in rural India. Today Economics and Political Science classes went on. 20 August (Friday)
Woke up by 5:30. All the day stayed at home and spent most of my time watching television. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Punya Sthree”. Karthik (my favorite film actor) and Bhavya played the main roles. It has a mesmerizing love story stressing the need of ideal and secular thoughts in modern youth. Religion should not be obstacle for friendship or marriage between two human beings. Idealism attracts all. But, in reality, very few can lead such ideal life. It is one of the best films I have seen. Today Hindu women observed “Vara Lakshmi Vratham” (an auspicious occasion according to Telugu calendar) celebration. Married Hindu women perform much worship (the right word in Telugu is ‘Pooja’) requesting Goddess Lakshmi to take care of the welfare of their husbands. But their husbands don’t care much about them. Today it was cool and cloudy. Today our college observes a holiday. Went to bed by 8:30.

Our college did not go on for this reason. Returned home by 4:00 by Tirumala Express. Went to sleep by 9:30.
22 August (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home watching television. My health became weak. Today my uncle Satya Narayana Raju came from Molleru Mallavaram. Went to sleep by 10:00.
23 August (Monday)

Came back to railway station by 4:00 and waited for the train for two hours. Took Godavari Express and reached home by 6:45. I am getting affected by my college life, especially due to waste of time at stations. Even my health is getting affected. I remember the proverb “What can’t be cured must be endured” and like to follow it. Went to bed by 8:00.
24 August (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Went to public library and spent there for some time. Came to the bus station by 11:00 and spent there till 12:00. Then went to Ambika Tea Stall and had tiffin for six rupees. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today only Economics class went on. Came back to railway station by 3:00 and caught Bokaro-Alleppey Express. Reached home by 4:00. Evening watched television for some time. This time the election scene in India has its own peculiarity (very boring and sickening dialogue no!). Went to sleep by 9:00.
25 August (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Reached Elamanchili by 9:30 and proceeded to public library. Spent there for two hours. Had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Went to our college by 12:30. Today only Economics class went on. Came back to railway station by 3:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:00. Recently my digestive system failed badly. I bought an allopathic tonic to deal with this disorder. It failed to cure it. An effective digestive system is necessary for a healthy body. I am a bit upset about it. Night watched television for some time. Went to bed by 9:00.
26 August (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Spent some time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today only Economics class went on. Afternoon went to cinema Venkateshwara and saw the Telugu film “Journalist”, a dubbed one from Malayalam. I liked this film very much. It is a film which moved my heart minute to minute. Ordinary viewers can also easily understand and follow this story. Malayalam film industry is known for such great films. Returned home by Godavari Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
27 August (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Spent some time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Today our college was polluted by election atmosphere. Today the program of filing nominations for the forthcoming Student Union Election took place. So, our classes did not take place today. Our college election will be held to elect six candidates (the representatives of students of the college headed by a president). Apparently the tussle is between Science and Arts students (B.Com. students would ‘be calm’). The respective candidates (contestants) and their supporters are actively campaigning going to the houses of students on vehicles. Returned home by 4:00 by Bokaro-Alleppey Express. College elections may be considered exciting when famous city colleges are involved in the scene. Otherwise they remain time pass games (in small and unknown colleges like ours). Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 August (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent at home till 10:30. Then took my “Thums Up” (with some luggage in it) bag and started to Adduroad. Took a bus and reached Tuni by 11:00. Thence took another bus by 1:00 to Jaggampeta. Reached there by 4:00. Thence took a bus for Molleru Mallavaram by 6:00 and reached my destination (the house of the maternal grandparents of my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani) by 7:00. Took a bath and dined. Night watched the Telugu feature film “Journalist” (which I recently saw in a cinema at Elamanchili) on Gemini television channel. Went to sleep by 11:00.
29 August (Sunday)
Woke up by 6:00. Spent most of my time at home watching television and listening to Telugu cine songs on our tape recorder. Night watched the Telugu feature film “Swarna Kamalam” of Venkatesh and Bhanu Priya on television. It is a masterwork. Went to sleep by 12:00.
30 August (Monday)
Woke up by 5:30. I came to Molleru Mallavaram at the invitation of my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani to visit their home. I find affectionate family relations here. They behave affectionately toward their guests (nothing to worry even if it is acting. It is desirable and appreciable). My nephews Sujan and Suhas are doing well. Sowjanya is a good girl with considerable beauty. She is frank in her attitude. I wish them all the best. I was taken photos along with my nephews Sujan and Suhas (both of them sitting on my right and left when I positioned myself in a chair. Some green plants at their house formed the background). Came back to Jaggampeta by bus and went to the house of my teacher uncle Venkata Rama Raju. Had my supper over there. Took Palakonda bound express bus at Jaggampeta bus stand and reached home by 10:00. This short tour went on satisfactorily. Went to bed by 10:30.
31 August (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and went to NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. The Student Union Election stunt is very hot presently at our college. The contestants and their supporting folks are seriously canvassing going to the local and distant houses of students enthusiastically. This morning our Arts Party (consisting of the presidential candidate from the Arts Group and his union members) went to all the classrooms for requesting students to vote in their/our favor. About 50 students of our party, including me, went to nearby villages canvassing on behalf of our contestants. From 1:30 to 12:30 (late night) we carried out this local tour. We did it traveling in a hired van from village to village. I walked long distances along with other heated up (with election fervor) fellows for this purpose. Went to sleep by 1:00.
1 September (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00 in the house of my classmate Appa Rao near our degree college in Elamanchili. Freshened up myself and left their house. All the students attended their classes by 10:30. Poll was started by 11:00. The contest is between S Appanna (Ashok, my classmate) of final year B.A. and K R G Prasad of final year B.Sc. The poll was over by 12:30. The count of votes was started by 1:30 by the authorized lecturers of our college. I too went into the count room as an authorized agent of our party (representing the team of contestants led by Ashok). K R G Prasad won the election with bumper majority. The main cause for the defeat of our party is lack of unity among Arts and Commerce students. Saw the Telugu film “Premikula Roju” in the matinee show. Reached home by 7:00 by Godavari Express. Went to bed by 8:00.
2 September (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent casually. My thought follows, “Now an awful situation prevailed all over the world wherein only competitive ones can survive. Strategy and capability to earn more money are the necessary qualities for any human being to live well now. The approach and method of earning money is hardly considered by the present society but how much one is earning fast. Poverty is a curse to many underdeveloped countries like India. Very few care for the poor. Even if a few ideal people work for the cause of the poorest of the poor in society, such negligible contribution from them can’t match the increasing number of the poor and their issues. Poverty can’t be uprooted through generous ways”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
3 September (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today Hindus are celebrating “Sri Krishna Janmaastami” (the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna). Morning my parents performed ceremonial worship to Lord Krishna at His temple in Ramayyapatnam. I too participated in this auspicious occasion. But this time I am mentally disturbed a bit and so I could not participate in His birthday celebrations in a satisfactory way. Today I stayed at home and spent my time listening to Telugu cine songs on tape recorder and watching television. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Sraavana Meghaalu” on Eenadu television channel. Today my uncle Rama Krishnam Raju came from village Ramuladeva Puram. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:30.
4 September (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent much of my time watching television. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Anubandham” on Eenadu television channel. This film deeply touched my heart. Night watched the Telugu feature film “Yuddha Bhoomi” of Chiranjeevi. Later watched my favorite program “Paaduthaa Theeyagaa” of S P Bala Subrahmanyam, which aims at encouraging talent of the youth in singing. Went to bed by 9:30.
5 September (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Reached Elamanchili by 10:00 to carry out a work of mine. Returned home by 12:00. Spent rest of the time watching television. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 September (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Spent most of the time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. By 12:00 went to my favorite fruit stall and had six bananas. Later had one glass of buttermilk. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today Economics, History and Political Science classes went on. Came back to railway station by 3:45. Knew that Tirumala Express had already left. Waited for the following train. Meanwhile our English Lecturer Jaya Parvathy came to station to take her train to Visakhapatnam. Spent talking with her. She advised me on how to go about my further studies and the related life. Took Godavari Express and reached home by 6:45. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 September (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Accompanied our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao up to our college on foot. He provides me with interesting conversation on the way. Went to public library by 10:00 and spent there till 11:00. 8 September (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Today an L.I.C. development officer asked me to join them as an L.I.C. Agent. I told him that I cannot attend that job being busy with my studies. Afternoon had six bananas and one glass of buttermilk. Today History and Economics classes went on. Today it is my birthday and also International Literacy Day. Today I enter my 24th year of life. Today I did not celebrate my birthday in a considerable way. Yet, for my satisfaction, distributed some “Maha Lacto” chocolates to my classmates. Afternoon it rained heavily in Elamanchili when we were in our classroom. Returned home by 4:00 by Tirumala Express. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
9 September (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today I avoided going to college. Went to the house of my uncle Rama Raju at Raja Venkata Nagaram on bicycle and spent there for six hours. Returned home by 4:30. Today it rained heavily in our region. Evening had my haircut in Adduroad. Night spent watching television for some time. This time the Lok Sabha and some state elections have their specialty compared to the previous ones. The BJP led coalition government collapsed at the center after its 13-month long rule when the Congress pulled its leg in the middle of the supposed five-year-long journey of political power. One political party can’t get full majority to form government at the center even in this election. Political parties are busy preparing their attractive manifestos (attractive lies to woo the brainless and helpless voters of the biggest democracy in the world. Shame to call it democratic country! How many intelligent people are voting and how many virtuous people are ruling! Should others explain the reality of our nasty democracy?). Went to bed by 9:30.
10 September (Friday)
Got up by 6:00. Spent most of my time at home watching television. By 3:00 went to Adduroad and spent some time talking with my friends. My thought follows, “Human life is highly commercialized in the modern world. In the present environment “money makes many things” is not applicable but “no life without money”. From peon to prime minister, everybody is interested and involved in earning something fast in a wrong way in the present liberal democratic system of India. The honest, the virtuous, the hard-working, the poor and the philanthropic are being treated as fools by criminals and sinners in society. Nobody can predict the destiny of India. God should come onto earth in His ultramodern and highly protective form of incarnation to save Himself first from these very intelligent people if He wants to reform them later”. Went to bed by 10:00.
11 September (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent watching television. For the last two days, it was cloudy which I like very much. Young lovers and newly married couples can enjoy such weather. When they are in absolute privacy, the entire world seems to them as if it was created for them only. May such deep and highly possessive lovers live long. Night watched a Telugu feature film on Eenadu television channel after the weekly program “Paaduthaa Theeyagaa”. Went to sleep by 10:00.
12 September (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent most of my time at home watching television. My salutes to Lord Gopal and Mother Saraswati. My salutes to the journey of time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 September (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today Hindus celebrate “Vinayaka Chavithi”, the festival meant for the worship of Lord Ganesh. He is the God who prevents obstacles in the progressive path of human life on earth. I pray Him to bless me with a life of peace and success. Morning worshipped Him in a simple way. Worshipped my books also keeping them at the holy feet of Lord Ganesh. Today I spent most of my time at home watching television. Night had a sweet dream wherein I enjoyed witnessing a beautiful part of my past life. I thank all gods for blessing me with such excellent dream. It deeply influenced my heart. Went to sleep by 9:00.
14 September (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to college and attended all the (four) classes. Returned home by 7:00 by Godavari Express. The recently introduced shift system became a curse to my life. I am the cause for it. I would have got rid of this problem going to college by bus like many other students. But I don’t like the narrow-minded rules and regulations of the state government, which necessitates bus pass holders to have onward and return journeys only for once a day and that too in limited time schedules. It is not the case with the Indian railways. If one has a season ticket, one can travel limitlessly on any day or night until it turns invalid (pursuing as many travels as possible or necessary as one can depending on one’s need or fancy for train journeys). So, I am traveling by train. Thus much of my time is getting wasted. No time to study. No enough money to eat good food. So, I am becoming physically weak. This is all because of being a son to an uneducated and foolish father. Went to bed by 8:00.
15 September (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:25. Went to public library and spent there till 11:00. By 12:00 had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today one History class, two Economics classes and one Political Science class went on. This afternoon, K R G Venkateshwara Rao, our student union chairman, distributed small packs of sweets to all the college students (celebrating his victory achieved in the recent college election supported by votes cast by some of our students). Came back to railway station by 4:30. Waited for a long time for my expected train. Took Godavari Express by 6:00 and reached home by 6:35. Went to bed by 8:00.
16 September (Thursday)

Meanwhile, J Krishna Rao, an old and educated man, came to me and sat beside me on wooden bench. He introduced himself and said that he held various high positions of power when he was young. He said that there are three job vacancies in the Handicrafts Division (Lepakshi notebooks) of the government of Andhra Pradesh. He can recommend candidates for those jobs. He told me that he would recommend my name because I looked like a good fellow to him. He also told me to see if there are two more good fellows for the remaining two vacancies. He showed me some documents to support his argument (that he is presently able to employ three fellows using his authority). He added that these jobs carry high salaries and attractive fringe benefits. I liked to join such lucrative job by his grace. Went to sleep by 9:00.

He took 100 rupees from me (as the compulsory fee for this job which he has to send on his own to the government authorities at Lepakshi Notebooks). I hoped that he would help me in getting a good job very easily. Spent talking with him till 11:00. Then went to Udipi Hotel and had a plate of vegetable biryani. Washed my face with soap at a hand pump and attended the classes by 12:00. Today only Economics class went on. Came back to railway station and spent preparing history notes. 21 September (Tuesday)

Afternoon had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today History and Economics classes went on. Today my classmates planned to go on a picnic soon to Visakhapatnam but our principal Swarnalatha did not approve our application. So, we decided to go there without her approval and the company of our lecturers (going against the norms of formal excursion of students). Only a few interested students participate in this informal tour to Visakhapatnam. Took Godavari Express and reached home by 6:45. Went to bed by 9:00.
22 September (Wednesday)
Woke up by 4:30. Got ready soon and went to Adduroad by 6:00. Took a bus and reached Elamanchili by 7:30. We (a few students going on an excursion to Visakhapatnam today) collected the food prepared by a local hotelier. We had our breakfast soon. We hired five Ambassador cars (they call them taxis when hired like this). We reached Kailasa Giri in Visakhapatnam by 1:00. We had our lunch sitting one after one in a friendly and close manner and visited all the beautiful sites on this hill. We spent there happily protecting ourselves from the winds blowing heavily. Our informal excursion team included 40 final year B.A. students (both girls and boys). Later we went to Vuda Park and beach. We enjoyed the cool seawater gently touching our feet for 90 minutes. We took photos whenever and wherever we felt necessary. We enjoyed it. It was a success. Came back to Elamanchili by 9:00. Went to sleep by 10:30.

Attended the classes by 12:30. Today History and Economics classes went on. Came back to railway station by 4:00. Prepared answer to one essay question in economics. 26 September (Sunday)
Woke up by 6:00. Morning went to Elamanchili by Tirumala Express and saw the English film “Alexandra”. It is an absorbing film for youth. Went to sleep by 9:00.
27 September (Monday)

Took a bus by 12:00 from Adduroad and reached Elamanchili by 12:30. Today History, Economics and Political Science classes went on. Returned home by 4:30 by bus. Attended the classes by 12:00. Today two History classes went on. Went to cinema Parameswari by 2:30 and saw the Telugu film “Thammudu” in matinee show. Pawan Kalyan, the youngest brother of film star Chiranjeevi and Preeti Zinganiya played the main roles in this film. This heroine is very beautiful. She looks innocent and attractive to viewers. The director presented her character commendably. A beautiful girl looks more beautiful when covered with decent clothes and behaves simply. The heroine represents such good qualities in this film. Went to bed by 9:00.
1 October (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Morning prepared answer to one essay question in economics. Got ready and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Today Economics and History classes went on. Came back to railway station by 3:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:30. Recently, J Krishna Rao, an old man, cheated me. He told me that he would get me a job at Lepakshi Showroom in Tirumala. He took 100 rupees from me. This is a lesson for me to be careful with strangers. May Lord Gopal bless me. Night watched television for some time. Welcome to October! May Mother Saraswati direct me well. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 October (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all the time at home preparing notes of Political Thought. Felt uneasy for being seated in the chair writing notes for a long time. Today it is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a noble personality in the history of modern India, who dedicated his life for freedom of India. Now his ideals remained in books and on the tongues of people rather than in practice. Night watched the Hindi feature film “Border” on Sony television channel. Went to sleep by 10:30.
3 October (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home preparing the notes of Political Thought. Simultaneously watched television. Night watched part of the Hindi feature film “Zanjeer” on Sony television channel. Went to sleep by 9:00.
4 October (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Today I got my essay in English typed up and dispatched to Samaalochana Voluntary Organization at Anakapalle. I wrote this essay on democracy. S V V S R Sastry, the zoology lecturer in our degree college, helped me in this regard. Attended the classes by 12:00. Today History and Economics classes went on. Afternoon saw the Telugu film “Guesthouse”. It is meant for loafers. Returned home by 6:30 by Godavari Express. In recent times I have been busy preparing notes for my final year B.A. subjects. May Lord Gopal bless me. May Mother Saraswati bless me. My salutes to Lord Ganesh. Went to sleep by 9:00.
5 October (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Classes don’t take place in our college today. The students of all the courses decided to take holidays for preparation for the forthcoming examinations (September/October). Secondly, some of our lecturers are going for election count (the count of polled votes). We have holidays for 34 days. Dasara and Deepavali holidays would be included in this vacation. Went to Adduroad and took a bus for Elamanchili. Spent some time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Returned home by 4:00 by bus. Today it rained heavily. Night wanted to watch a good film on Eenadu television channel but our television failed. Went to bed by 10:00.
6 October (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today it rained heavily. All the day stayed at home and prepared notes of Public Administration. Today the count of polled votes was started in India. Recently general election was conducted for the formation of 13th Lok Sabha at the center and for four state assemblies. Politics is the most attractive game in India. So, the All India Radio, other radio stations and television channels organized special election result programs. The people are tied to various media channels for the news of these election results. All the political parties are waiting for the results with heavy sense of zeal and excitement. The climate is not encouraging for this scene. It is raining continuously. Went to sleep by 10:00.
7 October (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and prepared notes of Public Administration. This time I voted in favor of Telugu Desam Party both for the assembly constituency and parliamentary constituency. Chengala Venkata Rao is the contestant for the assembly seat from Payakaraopeta constituency and Ganta Srinivasa Rao is the contestant for the Lok Sabha seat from Anakapalle constituency. Both of them won their seats. The specialty of this assembly election is that Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, the present Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has been proved as the perfect leader of Telugu Desam Party (bringing bumper majority to his party under his leadership in this election). Famous Congress leaders were also badly defeated by TDP candidates. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
8 October (Friday)
Got up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home. By today the task of my notes preparation came to an end. My objective in preparing notes is to simplify my preparation for the annual examinations studying only very important and the expected questions and answers. But this time I prepared notes to essay type questions only. May God bless me. This time B.J.P. (Bharatiya Janata Party) won considerable Lok Sabha (the lower house of Parliament in India formed by the elected representatives of people) seats. The B.J.P. and its allies called “National Democratic Alliance” won about 300 seats and are going to form government at the center. I don’t know how Atal Bihari Vajpayee can run this joint venture with various regional parties. It is difficult to be a perfect and successful leader of a joint venture. Night watched television for some time. Went to bed by 10:00.
9 October (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to the house of my uncle Rama Raju at Raja Venkata Nagaram on bicycle and spent there for two hours. Today I suffered from ineffective digestion and so bought some tablets at a medical store to cure it. By afternoon I felt relieved. By 2:00 I became physically very weak. The effects of reaction did not stop. So, night I took another tablet for the control of invited diarrhoea. Thus my health was badly affected today. Went to bed by 9:00.
10 October (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home listening to Telugu cine songs on tape recorder and radio and watching television. My salutes to Lord Gopal. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 October (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Went to Adduroad by 8:00 and took a bus for Elamanchili. Got off it and went to primary health centre to consult a doctor about my recent health disorder. He prescribed two tablets, which were given in the hospital itself. Spent some time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Took a bus and reached home by 3:00. Listened to Telugu cine songs on radio and tape recorder for some time. Today some professionals painted the doors and windows in our house. Today N Chandra Babu Naidu was sworn in as the Chief Minister (for the second time) of Andhra Pradesh by the governor of the state. He stated that he would run the state toward progress applying his skills and efforts. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 October (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent most of the time watching television and listening to radio. Of late I am suffering from disorder in my digestion. So, I became weak. Recently I wrote a letter to my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani asking her to send me a recent card size color photo of her sister Sowjanya. She is a beautiful and good girl. She is brought up in a traditional way. She is presently spending her days at home very casually. She must be feeling lonely and boring. She cannot enjoy freedom at their home. May God bless her with good life. Today it was very hot. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 October (Wednesday)
Got up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home. Even today I suffered from indigestion. It takes some time for me to recover from this weakness. Today Atal Bihari Vajpayee took an oath as the Prime Minister of India. Seventy members took an oath as the cabinet and ministers of state (forming his new government/ministry). The Congress (I) has to play its role as an efficient opposition party at the center and in some states. With the origin of various regional political parties in many states, the Congress party lost its past glamour and vigor. Now it is split in some states. Complete majority to one political party (enabling it to form government on its own) now became an impossible occurrence at the center. Criminals and fraudsters entered Indian politics. Went to sleep by 8:30.
14 October (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent much of the time watching television and listening to radio. Afternoon watched the Hindi feature film “Ghar Ek Mandir” on Sony television channel. I liked this film very much. Joint family system in India would have warm, reliable and lasting relationships. But it is necessary that all the family members equally contribute to such great bond of relations. If a clash takes place in such good family, the attachments slowly fade and that family loses its beauty of togetherness. However, all the family members realize their mistakes toward the end and come together to live affectionately like before. It is a touching story. Went to sleep by 9:00.
15 October (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. By 10:30 received a letter from “Samaalochana”, a voluntary organization in Anakapalle. I was called for an interview. It was stated in the letter that I should attend this interview by 10:00 (morning) today. Rang up the fellow at the organization and informed him that I would come there by 4:00. As promised, I reached his residence by 4:00 by bus. He treated me well. He told me about the objectives and functioning of the organization. I said that I would join this organization. It is a regional branch of the SMILE, a national level voluntary organization based at New Delhi. Took Godavari Express. A T.T.E. blamed me for not buying ticket. Went to bed by 9:00.
16 October (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent my time very casually. My thought follows, “Love for money is common quality of every human being, in general. But, greed for it is a different thing. A greedy person does not value human relations. He leads his life always thinking about increasing his wealth. In that pursuit of money, he neglects his comforts of personal and familial life, if they are related to money. He grows old and dies with a lot of wealth around, not with people lamenting his death”. Went to bed by 9:30.
17 October (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent all my time at home watching television and listening to radio. Now I am not well. Went to sleep by 9:00.
18 October (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home watching television and listening to radio. Now I am suffering from weak health. This is regarding my digestive system. I did not consult a good doctor. I can’t pay doctor fee. I consulted a government doctor but his treatment did not help me. Because of this health disorder, I am not growing properly in accordance with my age. I am sad to see my weak body. May God safeguard me. I have no alternative except submitting myself to His kindness and guidance. May my health recover soon. Went to sleep by 9:00.
19 October (Tuesday)
Got up by 5:00. Morning spent at home casually. Afternoon went to Adduroad and saw the Telugu film “Narasimha” (the dubbed version of the Tamil original). It has an interesting story. Basically most of the films are based on fiction. Everybody knows it. Sometimes man wants to live in a fantastic world because the visible facts of human life on earth are mostly bitter. An interesting story, presented dramatically on screen, provides temporary happiness to viewers. Rajnikanth, Soundarya and Ramya Krishna played the main roles in this film. The hero wants to keep up the dignity and prestige of his royal life. He is an elegant and noble man. His every plan and act seems to be something special to observers. The story unfolds with interesting twists rousing anxiety and excitement in the audience minute to minute. Its climax makes the audience leave cinema happily. Went to bed by 9:00.
20 October (Wednesday)
Got up by 5:00. Today I wanted my single (nobody being with me) color photos to be shot at Gopala Krishna Photo Studio in Adduroad. So, I had a bath specially, put on an old but attractive pair of clothes (navy blue shirt and blue trousers) and went to the photo studio on bicycle. I got two color photos taken, one in standing style and one in sitting style (in a chair) with black glasses. I asked the photographer about the durability of the color of the photos. He frankly said that it does not last long compared to the black and white photos. He added that the modern technology introduced speed in everything but not durability or quality. The modern man rarely worries about his future but about his happiness and comfort in the present. He likes to celebrate the present but not to be tense about the future or regret his past. I alerted myself after listening to him. I believe that photography is a great medium to carefully record and preserve our remembrances of visible nature. But the color photo (representing the modern technology) can’t preserve my memories (the true color and beauty of my photos for future purposes). Went to sleep by 9:00.
21 October (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Spent at home till 1:00. Then started to our mango grove at hills on bicycle. I took fresh cheese (made with buffalo milk and jaggery) to our relatives over there. I like cool weather very much. Breezes blowing down from the surrounding green hills gently touch our weary bodies. The serenity of surroundings plants innovative thoughts and transcendent imaginations in one’s creative and romantic mind. Our mango grove is at the foot of hills. The sweet sounds of small birds and wild animals in the nearby trees and hills heal my psyche greatly. Today I enjoyed such refreshing air there. I am regaining my health. Returned home by 6:00. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
22 October (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. My uncle Rama Raju came to our house by 8:00. Both of us started to Elamanchili by 8:30 by bus. Today free eye checkup program is being conducted at Government Hospital in Elamanchili. This program aims at conducting free cataract operations to the needy patients. They tested my uncle by 1:00. The doctor told him not to worry about the minor disorder around his irises. A thin reddish layer has been extending toward his irises. The doctor advised him to come to the Eye Hospital in Visakhapatnam on any Monday. A minor operation has to be conducted to clear the layer spreading toward his irises. We returned home by 2:30. Spent rest of my time at home casually. Went to sleep by 9:00.
23 October (Saturday)
Got up by 6:00. Recently the lorry owners started a nationwide strike protesting against the decision of the Government of India to bring a four-rupee price hike in the diesel rates. Many vehicle owners supported their stand. The government says that it is due to the hike in crude oil prices in the international market, which it can’t control. The clash between the government and the vehicle owners became inevitable in this scenario. The complexity is on. National highway is appearing lorry-free now. Today I spent at home watching television. Went to bed by 9:00.
24 October (Sunday)
Spent all my time at home watching television. I am not well. May God bless me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
25 October (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent watching television. Actually I wanted to utilize all these 30 Dasara holidays for my preparation for the annual examinations. But I don’t have an encouraging atmosphere at home. I don’t have a room (study) for my studies. Television and tape recorder attract me when they are off and distract me when they are on (from my studies). A son of uneducated parents might dream to become a man of enlightenment and progressiveness but he hardly finds favorable environment at home to realize them soon. Discouraging circumstances around him mock at his ambitions, time to time, pulling him down from the heights of his dreams and ideals. It’s a hell of life to carry on one’s education in such penury and the accompanying conditions. Education brings hope into one’s ignorant and pessimistic life. May knowledge thrive in this world. Went to sleep by 9:00.
26 October (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day stayed at home and spent very casually. My thought follows, “Human world is highly selfish. Bureaucracy is a good example for it. Even high cadre employees (enjoying handsome salaries and attractive fringe benefits with a little work to do) mercilessly demand bribes from the poor. They don’t donate even one rupee to a beggar. They think that beggars are unwanted stuff on earth and so donating them something is a crime (encouraging those filthy blokes to live for long). They worry a lot if they miss their lunch for one day due to some unavoidable circumstances. They don’t like bothering themselves with hunger but they don’t mind if a beggar is dying before them due to it. Nobody is supposed to worry when a poor fellow is dying helplessly. The modern urban culture is so. Nobody can prevent it. Let one see and enjoy the way of the world in the present testing times of humanity”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
27 October (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent much of my time at home. Evening went to the nearby cashew groves to supervise our buffalos when they were grazing. By 6:00 went to Adduroad and had my haircut. Night watched television for some time. Today I slept in the open under the cool moonlight and the light fall of dew. Night I witnessed a heavenly dream wherein my sweetheart dramatically touched my heart with powerful love for me. The value of bliss I underwent in the dream is immeasurable in monetary calculations. Thank you dear God for blessing me with such classic dream. Later I dreamt that I won a car as a gift. Thank you dear Gopal for your silly game with me in my dream. Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 October (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home. My thought follows, “Generosity is an ideal. It reflects the psychological growth of a person. It is a great quality of humanity. We find loads of generosity in books and pieces of art. People don’t live generously. That’s why the world is infested with terrible human values like selfishness, envy, exploitation, terrorism and corruption. Generosity exists there where one can love the other just because the other one is also a human being like him or her. God is a perfect representative of generosity. His concern for all creatures on earth is real and equal. His love for them safeguards and directs them always”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
29 October (Friday)
Woke up by 6:00. All the day spent at home. This evening J Krishna Rao came to our house and said that he came from Vijayawada. He says that he provides me with a job at Lepakshi showroom. I don’t know how long I should believe in him. He met me at Elamanchili railway station some days ago. Since then he has been haunting me like this. I enquired about him. I wrote a letter to a female candidate in Hyderabad, who was said to be a jobholder helped by him according to him. She replied me that this old man is a cheat and an unreliable crook. But, in my opinion, truth can’t be discovered easily. So, I am continuing my careful association with him. Night he slept in our house as a guest. Watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
30 October (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home. This morning our guest J Krishna Rao left our house. I gave him 50 rupees on his request for his daily expenses. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Shankaraabharanam” on Eenadu television channel. It is one of my most favorite Telugu films. My dearest singer S P Bala Subrahmanyam rendered mesmerizing voice for the songs in this film. It is meant for sensitive viewers. Today my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani and my nephews Sujan and Suhas came from Molleru Mallavaram. Went to sleep by 9:00.
31 October (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Sapthapadhi”, directed by K Viswanath, on Eenadu television channel. His films portray the sublime and idealistic characteristics of human life. Went to sleep by 9:00.
1 November (Monday)
Woke up by 5:30. All the day it was cool, cloudy and rainy due to cyclonic effect. By 11:30 went to Raja Venkata Nagaram along with my nephew Sujan on bicycle. We spent there till 4:00. I had some guavas there from the grove. My aunt Raja Kumari prepared some eatables for us. I enjoyed the soothing air in the coconut grove. Returned home by 4:30. Today it is Andhra Pradesh Formation Day. May our state thrive in all the ways. Night wrote a serious letter to candidates in Molleru Mallavaram. I informed them about the regulations to be followed by us in correspondence between us hereafter. It is my disciplinary action against their disloyalty toward me recently. Went to sleep by 9:00.
2 November (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Morning went to public library in village Koruprolu to have a look at the newspapers but the librarian told me to come in the evening. Today I spent my time idly. I feel sorry for misusing all these holidays. Evening went to public library at Koruprolu and spent there for two hours. Recently I could not control my mind. I wanted to study well all these days but time elapsed just like that. I often worry to realize that I was born into an uneducated family. My parents are such foolish creatures that they don’t know how to help me financially. Thus my life of studies became pale and passive. Went to bed by 8:30.
3 November (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Morning spent at home. By 11:00 went to the house of my uncle Appala Raju (the husband of my paternal aunt Subhadra). Spent talking with him till 1:00. Rested for some time. Evening accompanied my sister-in-law Sandhya Rani, nephews Sujan and Suhas to a doctor in Adduroad for a casual checkup of children. Recently a severe cyclone ravished the coastal regions of Orissa. Nearly 10,000 people died in this natural calamity. Property worth lakhs of rupees was ruined. The central government released 300 crore rupees for the relief and rehabilitation measures in these affected areas. Nobody knows how much corruption prevails in the distribution of these funds to the victims. May God bless them. Night avoided watching television and listening to radio. Went to bed by 8:00.
4 November (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today I spent at home casually. My thought follows, “Beauty is the greatest creation of God in this world. It attracts everybody within seconds. Flowers attract bees and please them with their offering of honey. Dawn and dusk inspire poets and encourage them to write poetry. Beauty is of two kinds, natural and artificial. Both have significance. The beauty of a woman is the main source for creativity of her devoted admirer. Twenty percent of the modern world is decorated with extraordinary man-made beauty. It is the main source for tourist income in the world. But many lack spiritual beauty. It makes the world ugly and unbearable to ponder about”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
5 November (Friday)
Woke up by 5:30. All the day spent casually at home. A short report about my father follows, “He is a simpleton in our family. He is a strong believer and follower of meaningless traditions and superstitions. He has no faculty of fair judgment. He does not seek advice from others when he does not know about something. He mostly spends his time in trivial chores of domestic life like washing buffaloes, cleaning their shed, beating them when they don’t give milk on some days, lending others’ money for courtesy sake, lack of discipline and punctuality, smoking, woodcutting and false prestige. I regret being his son. The problem is that we can’t choose our parents. He loves money and buys agricultural land at the cost of minimum needs of his family members”. Went to sleep by 9:00.
6 November (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. This morning, K Surya Rao, the military friend of my brother Srinivas, came to our house. Presently he is working at Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. He holds Nayak rank in the army. He said that he has been eating plenty of apples in the coldest region of India known for its natural beauty. Recently he gained more weight on his bones due to the comfort of his present job and the cold weather in that region. He wants to retire soon from the army. Went to sleep by 9:00.
7 November (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today it is Deepavali. I did not wear new pair of clothes celebrating this occasion. My mother prepared special dishes on this occasion. Night too the festive mood was not great in our house. Went to sleep by 9:00.
8 November (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. All the day spent at home casually. Today I heard that the inspection squad of Andhra University debarred (from taking examinations till some period of time) nearly 15 students of our degree college for their misconduct in the recently held October examinations. K R G Venkateshwara Rao, the recently elected student union president, is also one of the debarred folks. I felt happy to know this. I am of the opinion that education is a good medium to understand a few useful concepts of some branches of knowledge, which can be put into practice later for our survival or excellence in our chosen fields of productive and constructive acts. It should not be polluted at graduation level also, where students are supposed to have a bit of common sense about what is good and bad. A graduate means almost a teacher (these days many graduates (especially in our state) prefer to become teachers in government schools because it is a reliable and comfortable job where responsibilities and tensions are very few compared to other jobs in private and public sectors). If a teacher is involved in copying (doing examinations using study material brought from outside or looking into the answer papers of others in the examination room) and is caught by university squad, what about the destiny of students in our schools and colleges! Went to bed by 9:00.
9 November (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:30. By today our long holidays of Dasara, Deepavali and October examinations came to an end. At the beginning of these holidays, I wanted to fully utilize the time to prepare for the annual examinations but it did not happen in reality. I am responsible for this disorder. May God pardon me and direct me well in the battle of examinations to come. Now my health is perfect. Thank you God for restoring my health. I owe you a lot. Recently air turned cold due to the advent of crazy and lazy winter (it makes people so depending on their ages). I like winter very much. God sends breezes for all His creatures on earth. Went to sleep by 9:00.
10 November (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Went to our college in rickshaw sitting beside our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao. He said that Christianity teaches to forgive sinners. I argued that sinners should be punished ruthlessly and immediately. Otherwise good people can’t live peacefully and happily. Afternoon had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Today five of us friends took student railway concession forms from the office of our college. The clerk at Elamanchili railway station did not issue us the concessionary quarterly season tickets demanding our passport size photos to be affixed on our identity cards. So, my friends, including three girls, waited at the railway station for long. Returned home by Godavari Express. Went to sleep by 9:00.
11 November (Thursday)

We consulted three doctors in Adduroad. Still he did not recover from it. May God bless him. Went to sleep by 9:00.
12 November (Friday)
Got up by 5:30. Today our college observes a local holiday. Today Hindus are observing “Naagula Chavithi”, the festival of worship of serpents which follows Deepavali. I bathed myself (with spiritual awareness) and went to our mango grove at hills along with my brother Sambha and my nephew Sujan on scooter (the one brought by my brother Srinivas from Ambala Cantonment). We offered cow milk and eggs in anthills for Lord Nagendra Swamy with empty stomachs and washed clothes (fast and fresh clothes on body are prerequisites to observe this holy festival of Hindus). We participated in this celebration in a traditional and pious way. We returned home by 10:30. Today, for the first time in my life, I rode scooter under the guidance of my brother Sambha. First I rode it from level crossing at Narsipatnam Road railway station to our house. Evening my uncle Rama Raju also taught me how to ride a scooter. I rode it from NRPM railway station to our house under his guidance. Help me my Lord Gopal. Went to sleep by 9:00.
13 November (Saturday)

Went to “Samaalochana”, a voluntary organization, functioning under the auspices of “SMILE”, which has a network of voluntary organizations across India. It is working toward encouraging youth in villages. On the 13th and 14th of this month, we volunteers, assembled at Rotary Club in New Colony. Resource persons (experts in some fields of theoretical and practical knowledge) spoke on some useful things to us. B Chakradhar (24 years old with a B.Tech.), the head of this voluntary organization, provided food, accommodation and traveling expenses for us.

Went to our college and met Sastry, the zoology lecturer, who is interested in any cultural activity associated with our college. I told him that “Samaalochana” of Anakapalle is taking me to New Delhi with the complete funding of our expenses by SMILE. Afternoon had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Today History and Economics classes went on. Came back to railway station by 4:00. Waited for train reading Andhra Pradesh Darshini, a big Telugu book on Andhra Pradesh (the gift I got in an essay writing competition recently). Went to sleep by 9:00.
16 November (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Spent much of my time at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Reached there by 12:00 and bought an application form for the APSRTC bus conductor post. There are 120 vacancies in Visakhapatnam zone. I heard that one’s employment seniority (one’s experience (duration of wait for a government job) as an eligible jobless creature registered with the District Employment Exchange) and one’s percentage of marks in one’s tenth standard are the deciding factors in filling these posts. Returned to Elamanchili soon. Had bananas for three rupees and one glass of buttermilk. Today Economics and History classes went on. Returned home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Night waited for V.A.O. (Village Administrative Officer) of Peda Gummuluru (to obtain an authorization letter). He did not turn up. Went to sleep by 9:00.
19 November (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Today I spent most of my time in carrying out the task of obtaining a Nativity Certificate (authorization letter from the revenue department showing that I am actually living in a particular region under their jurisdiction) from the Mandal Revenue Office in S Rayavaram (our Mandal). I waited for the V.A.O. in our village for a long time. Got him by 4:00 and went to S Rayavaram along with him on his moped. I obtained Nativity Certificate by 7:00 by the recommendation of a local (familiar to our family) influential (in the local political environment) person. I felt very happy for getting my Nativity Certificate within three hours today by the recommendation of that influential person. 23 November (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today I was informed that our New Delhi tour would be started tomorrow. I think it is a good opportunity for me, especially this is a tour meant for exposure (observing the outer world and understanding it to some extent). Talent should not be kept buried. I would present a brief account of our New Delhi tour from the following page. Today my aunt Lakshmi and my sisters-in-law Sowjanya and Sandhya Rani were engaged in preparing some sweets. Today it was cool and cloudy. Today it is the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak (the religious head of Sikhs) who made Sikhs into a courageous and strong race by his teachings and efforts. Sikhs stand for patriotism and readiness for national integrity and protection of India. Night watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 9:00.
24 November (Wednesday)
My report on our recent tour to New Delhi follows: “SMILE means ‘Student Mobilization Initiative for Learning through Exposure’. It has about 16 voluntary organizations spread across India, which are working for the development of youth in their respective regions. Each center has its own name, ideologies, principles and objectives. All these regional voluntary organizations are provided with financial assistance by the main organization (SMILE) based at New Delhi. These regional voluntary organizations are in the western, central, northern, southern and eastern regions of India. The name of the regional voluntary organization we represent is “Samaalochana” based at Anakapalle in the south of India.
25 November (Thursday)
We are eight volunteers in total from “Samaalochana” including B Chakradhar, our coordinator. There are two girls in our contingent. About 16 volunteers of “LAYA” voluntary organization, which is functioning from Visakhapatnam city, accompanied us in the New Delhi tour. Its coordinator is Raghu. Our journey took place between Visakhapatnam and New Delhi. The trains we travelled by (for all the distance of to and fro journeys) are Godavari Express and A.P. Express. The total time I spent for this tour is 156 hours. The total expenditure borne by SMILE for my expenses of the tour amounts to about 2000 rupees. I started in the evening hours on the 24th of this month and returned home in the morning hours on 1st December.
26 November (Friday)
‘The Millennium Smiles’ celebration took place at Harijan Sevak Sangh, Kingsway Camp, New Delhi. All the coordinators of the regional voluntary organizations, from different parts of the country, assembled at this venue along with their respective contingents. The invited guest speakers delivered their lectures on democracy, secularism and peace. They are Rev. Valson Thampu, Dilip Simeon, Professor Bipin Chandra, Pawan Kumar Verma and the noted Gandhian and social activist Nirmala Deshpande. The convention took place from 26th November to 29th November (for four days). On 30th December, we went for Delhi Darshan (sightseeing in Delhi). We enjoyed panel discussions, group discussions, creative expressions, procession through Lajpat Nagar, cultural presentations of the voluntary organizations and the underlying sense of national integration for these four days.
27 November (Saturday) – 28 November (Sunday)
I felt blissful to witness different cultures of India in one place. The feelings I experienced there were amity and liberty. There was no place for words like inferiority and superiority. We enjoyed the Delhi atmosphere very much. We felt excited sensing the company of the jovial people of Delhi. We were provided with tasty food and comfortable accommodation. Every night saw us sleeping very late after much joy derived from our inhibition-free mutual interaction and the related harmony. We watched a reel show, which ‘Pravah’ Group of New Delhi shot, during their recent visit to Pakistan aimed at enhancement of friendly relations between the two nations. The participants of that tour told us about the conditions in Pakistan.
29 November (Monday)
This is one of the best events I attended in my small life of ignorance and innocence. We walked in a procession on roads through Lajpat Nagar shouting that all of us are Indians. The objective of this procession by us over there publicly was to reach the residents of Delhi our message that though India is diverse in its cultural and regional aspects, it remains united forever, which forms part of its beauty and dignity. India invited people of all religions and allowed them to live with their culture intact. It remains secular forever because it can’t be imagined by anybody without its lifeblood of secularism. Had India been religiously blind, the canals in the villages and the rivers in the cities would have been filled with blood flowing down from the dead bodies of millions of victims wounded in daily communal clashes. Only universal fraternity is the key for a peaceful coexistence of Indians and that is what they have been practicing for centuries.
30 November (Tuesday)
On the night of 29th we enjoyed music very well. The ‘Big Shout’ celebration took place at ‘Blue Bells International’ where all the participants played and danced happily and crazily to the tune of the music played by a famous music band. When we were coming back from New Delhi, I felt as if a world of limitless joy was distancing itself from me. We enjoyed the train journey all the way. We ran hastily to catch A.P. Express in our return journey. Thus my weeklong New Delhi tour left me with sweet memories which last for long”. I thank Lord Krishna for blessing me with this boon. May Mother Saraswati bless me always. May Lord Ganesh direct me always.

Came back to railway station by 3:20. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:30. Night watched television for some time. Most of my time is getting wasted in train travel. May Lord Gopal bless me. May Mother Saraswati bless me. Went to bed by 9:30.
15 December (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Got ready soon and reached NRPM station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:40. Today I sent the manuscript of my essay to the Government Junior College at Sabbavaram. This afternoon a meeting was conducted in our college on the occasion of the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Six teaching staff members and six students spoke about the great life values of Patel, which made him “The Iron Man of India” and “Indian Bismarck”. The determination and courage of this great national leader (exhibited in making India a nation unifying all its independent fragments of rule after independence in 1947) must be emulated by present youth for reaching their goals. The meeting went on well. It was formally concluded with the chant of Janaganamana (the national anthem of India). This meeting took place between 2:00 and 3:30. Returned home by Godavari Express. Went to bed by 9:30.
16 December (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:30. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Went to our college and participated in some competitions (which test the creativity of participants). I participated in Debate and Criss-cross (wherein one speaker talks in favor of a topic while the other one has to speak against it). These are college level selections. The selected ones in these competitions would be sent to participate in the competitions to be held soon at B V K College in Visakhapatnam. Today History and Public Economics classes went on. Returned home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. From 5:00 to 10:00 I was engaged in preparing an essay in Telugu on “The Role of Religious Harmony and National Integration in the Development of India” (the English translation of the topic given in Telugu). This essay should not exceed six pages. I prepared it very well. Thank you God. This is meant for a State Level Essay Writing Competition. Went to bed by 10:30.
17 December (Friday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 10:00. Today I received 1000 rupees by Money Order from my brother Srinivas. Went to our college by 11:00. Today ‘Group Discussion’, ‘Which is a Good Word’ and ‘Quiz’ competitions were conducted in our college to select candidates for the competitions to be held at B V K College in Visakhapatnam. Today Public Economics class went on. Most of the college time is being spent for cultural activities. Returned home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Evening my uncle Narasimha Murthy came from Tetagunta. I like his satirical words. He is hard-working and strategic. He is interested in agriculture. Went to bed by 9:30.
18 December (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Today our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao supervised the works of “Clean and Green Program” in our college. We washed the floor of our classroom from 12:00 to 2:30. I felt very happy to work in our classroom (service to our living environment). Returned home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Night watched the weekly Telugu program “Paaduthaa Theeyagaa” on Eenadu television channel. Went to bed by 9:30.
19 December (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Reached Anakapalle by 8:00 by Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger train. Met Chakradhar and returned home. Spent rest of the time at home watching television. Went to sleep by 9:00.
20 December (Monday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:50. Today I waited for long at the bus station in Elamanchili for B Chakradhar, the Coordinator of Samaalochana, Anakapalle. He did not come there as promised. I was disappointed and disgusted by his careless behavior. I decided to teach him a lesson. Today I spent all my college time in preparation of parcel and dispatch of the entries of essays to Hyderabad (for the state level essay competition). I was burdened with that task. Some participants (our college students) brought their copies of essays at the last minute. I felt disgusted at their indiscipline and sense of punctuality. At last the registered parcel (containing all the entries from our college) was posted by 3:15. Took Tirumala Express and reached home by 4:30. Evening wrote a serious letter to B Chakradhar (scolding him like anything for his misconduct with me failing to meet me at the given time in Elamanchili. He wanted to come to our college to take some students into his voluntary organization with my cooperation to him in that regard. I blasted him for his carelessness and treating himself as a great fellow expecting me to wait for him like an idiot at the bus stand in Elamanchili. I warned him not to show his face to me or at our college. One can’t be a good leader when one fails to follow the principles of universal fraternity and punctuality in treating and dealing with one’s subordinates in one’s path of achievement of some goals, social or personal. I advised him to change his behavior first so that he can lead his voluntary organization later. If he treats innocent students working under him like brainless sheep (who thoughtlessly walk in a path of journey believing in or aping the ones going ahead of them) he fails to be a leader any more. I don’t like to deal with such undisciplined bloke any more). Night watched television for some time. Went to bed by 9:30.
21 December (Tuesday)
Woke up by 5:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 10:00. Spent at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao for two hours. Afternoon had six idlies at a hotel. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today the third unit test of Public Economics took place in our class. That much is enough. Some of our lecturers come to college for spending their time happily talking with their idle colleagues. They don’t take their classes properly. I don’t know how they take moral responsibility for their salaries. Came back to station and took Tirumala Express. Reached home by 4:30. It is said that this night is the longest of the year (according to experts in that field). Watched television for some time. Went to sleep by 10:30.
22 December (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00 on bicycle. Today it is the birth anniversary of Dattatreya Maharshi (a great Indian saint). Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:50. Spent two hours at the pan shop of my friend Appa Rao. Had idlies for three rupees and one glass of grape juice. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today only Public Economics class went on. By 2:40 went to cinema Venkateshwara and saw the English film “Star Women”. Liberal and open bodily activities, presented in this film, satisfied the thirsty eyes and sultry bodies of viewers. They could thus satiate their innermost libido. Came back to railway station, took Godavari Express and reached home by 6:40. Night prepared messages for New Year greeting cards. Went to bed by 9:30.
23 December (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today it is the first birthday of Suhas, son of my brother Srinivas. His birthday is being celebrated at the house of his maternal grandparents in Molleru Mallavaram. I too was invited to attend it but could not go there being busy with my engagements. Twenty days ago, I sent his color photo to Eenadu television channel in Hyderabad and wrote them to show his photo on the given date (today) and greet him in their program meant for it. By 8:50 he was greeted in its daily morning telecast “Mano Ranjani”. Went to our college by 12:30 by bus. Today only Public Economics class went on. Today my classmate M S R Rajya Lakshmi also celebrated her birthday. Returned home by 5:00. Evening spent watching television. Night prepared messages for New Year greeting cards to send to many. Went to bed by 9:30.
24 December (Friday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today our college observes a holiday. So, I remained at home. By 9:30 took our bicycle and started to State Bank of India at Etikoppaka. There is bus facility from Adduroad to Etikoppaka. But I traveled all the 20 kilometers, to and fro, on bicycle, because I am unable to spend eight rupees, the bus fare. I traveled on the dusty road (in Etikoppaka). I want to save eight rupees riding bicycle, though it is difficult. Deposited 1000 rupees into my savings bank account. My brother Srinivas sent me this money one week ago. One rupee is equal to 100 rupees in my present complicated financial position. Spent most of rest of the time watching television. Went to bed by 9:30.
25 December (Saturday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent at home till 10:00 and then started to Raja Venkata Nagaram on bicycle. Spent there till 4:00 at the abode of my uncle Rama Raju. The daughter of Datla Subba Raju, the owner of the coconut garden (in which our uncle Rama Raju is a supervisor), is here now. She recently came from Australia, the land of Kangaroos. Her husband has been working as a software engineer there for long. Her two female children (about 10 years old) look beautiful and wise. I found the fairness of their skin unbearable. Returned home by 5:00. Night watched my favorite weekly Telugu program “Paaduthaa Theeyagaa” on Eenadu television channel. Went to bed by 10:00.
26 December (Sunday)
Woke up by 5:30. Spent all my time at home watching television. Afternoon watched the Telugu feature film “Swayam Krushi” of Chiranjeevi on television. My salutes to Lord Gopal. Went to sleep by 9:00.
27 December (Monday)
Woke up by 5:30. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili. Went to our college in rickshaw along with our economics lecturer Prabhakara Rao sitting beside him. This morning I did not have my breakfast at home due to late preparation of food by my mother. So, I had tiffin for eight rupees at a hotel soon after a little time after getting down from the train. Today classes did not go on. Today I became physically weak by the time I entered our classroom. It was because I did not have rice at home in the morning. Perhaps my body must have been accustomed to rice. Returned home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Today I received the first subscription copy of General Knowledge Refresher from New Delhi (to which I recently subscribed). Went to sleep by 9:00.
28 December (Tuesday)
Woke up by 6:00. Got ready soon and reached NRPM railway station by 9:00. Took Tirumala Express and reached Elamanchili by 9:30. Attended the classes by 12:30. Today only History class went on. In this one-hour class, a critical discussion took place among us classmates in our classroom on the issue of the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the national movement in India during freedom struggle. In this hot debate among ourselves, the students presented their arguments like lawyers in a court of law and our History Lecturer C Surya Sobhan observed the proceedings like a judge. We enjoyed it. Night I had sweet dreams. One of the scenes of the sequence of my dreams is film heroine Sakshi Sivanand affectionately lying beside me (I did not think of her before sleeping. She was a voluntary guest into my dreamland. Who said that somebody enters our dream if we think about him or her during that day or before sleeping? It happens rarely. Many dreams remained miracles as far as my dreamland is concerned. I believe in many of my dreams. They seldom cheat me. Sixty percent of my dreams have been classics, which I could not shoot and store in a video format. I regret it). Thanks for the night and my naughty Lord Krishna who showed me this free film in my cinema “Dreamland” like a thief. Went to bed by 9:30.
29 December (Wednesday)
Woke up by 5:30. Today classes did not take place in our college for B.A. students. Our lecturers went to attend a meeting on “Janma Bhoomi” program. Returned home by 4:30 by Tirumala Express. Historical time is very near (approaching fast) to send off the present year, century and millennium. I am one of the luckiest ones, to be at the junction of this time period, to welcome a new millennium, century and year. As far as my personal life is concerned, I spent 25 percent of it in the 20th century. I was born in 1976, exactly the first year in the fourth quarter of the 20th century. I would be grateful to Lord Krishna, who directed my life carefully all these years, and is going to hand me safely to the new millennium. I owe Him a lot forever for His kindness and care in directing and behaving with me. Went to sleep by 9:00.
30 December (Thursday)
Woke up by 5:00. Reached Visakhapatnam by 9:30 by Kakinada-Visakhapatnam passenger starting from Narsipatnam Road. Proceeded to B V K College. Today various competitions like Criss-cross, Debate, Painting, Which is a Good Word, Group Discussion and Singing Songs were conducted there. Winners were awarded medals. I did not participate in any competition. Bought some readymade clothes in the showroom of Kumar Shirts at Jagadamba Junction and a diary at Jyothi Book Depot. Returned home by 10:30 by Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada passenger train. I am grateful to Mother Saraswati for Her kind direction of my life in education. Being involved in learning for all these years, I could become a considerable entity on earth. Went to bed by 9:30.
31 December (Friday)
Woke up by 5:30. Reached Elamanchili by 9:30 by Tirumala Express. Today we cleaned our classroom and decorated it with color papers. Some of our classmates involved in this activity. Returned home by 6:45 by Godavari Express. The most powerful and influential voice in me is my conscience. It must be said to be the real supervisor of my life for all these years. My understanding abilities about life were gradually enriched by the influences of family, society and nature around me. I like imposing rigid norms upon me and following them. Such nature kept me happy for all these years. I sadly bid farewell to this millennium, century and year. My salutes to my past life and the kind time that nurtured it. Went to sleep by 10:30.
